Virgin media has a 30-year brand licensing agreement with Sir Richard's Virgin Group. Sir Richard Branson, retains a 2% stake in Virgin Media and is the face of the Virgin Group

Because the takeover hasn't happened yet
The Guardian link only speaks of the cash and shares offer being announced and talks in the future of the deal going through, but if it has been completed (second ink) then Richard Branson is still the founder of Virgin Group , an investor in its various companies,, and the face of Virgin. And the Virgin Media brand survives, as is common with takeovers; Cadburys is still branded Cadburys, for example.
