Tories 36% Labour 36% UKIP 7%.(Haven't got Lib Dems) [Sky News] If you were Labour's campaign manager, would you be worried? Why is Labour not doing better? My opinion is that the leader doesn't come across as a leader. That's depressing, considering that Cameron is a very long way from being Churchill (or Lloyd George, come to that, taking a different party). He is a standard pattern, cut out, upper middle.

I wonder whether I am alone in this weird position...

I am a Labour voter who finds Cameron a much more appealing prospect (as a Prime Minister) than Ed Milliband.

I don't know what it is about Wallace - but I just don't believe anything he says. I kinda find him...a bit rubbish.

However, despite the fact that he is the leader of the Conservative Party, whose policies by and large I do not support, I view David as a much more convincing leader of the nation.

I wonder whether it may be because if his stance on marriage equality?

I have a horrible feeling that if I were in an Islington dinner party, I would lean towards David, rather than Ed.

Is Ed a liability amongst those who aren't fans of 'Wallace & Gromit'???

Ed Milliband as PM......(Zacs does his laughing policeman impression).
Milliband does seem a disappointment, but unfortunately we mainly only get a view of him as presented by the extremely Right Wing media.

Nevertheless, a bit more oooomph wouldn't come amiss - but stopping well short of Blairish Bullsh1t.
I could never ever vote for either Ed Minibrain or Balls to govern this country. They are both an embarrassment (I used to think Cherie Blair was too). No wonder his bro David left for America.
The most significant part of the poll is the decline in the UKiP vote. It has been UKiP taking votes from the Conservatives that has flattered the Labour lead over the last year. But Labour's lead wasn't on merit. They are not engaging the voters, they are not fighting the cuts and not fighting the attacks on the poor. But the Conservatives cannot take much from this poll either. They are not doing as badly as before because some people who were flirting with UKiP have suddenly changed their minds. But it would only take another good performance from UKiP in a by election and those voters could switch back again.

Looks like we are in similar territory as three years ago, and the country is genuinely split.

I realise if you don't vote you have no gripe. IMO they are all a bag of sh1te.
Get used to it Robkep, all three main parties are pro Europe.

UKiP as you say, are just a protest vote. The electorate are not being given much of a choice.

If you are anti EU, I suggest you move to Iceland because the UK are in for the foreseeable future
To have Miliband as PM would be just too embarrassing, everyone would laugh at us.
I have been a Tory all my life, but I do think Cameron is pushing his luck.

Jeza - //I realise if you don't vote you have no gripe.//
That's not exactly true though is it? If there's no party whose policies you agree with what are you supposed to do?
And you can gripe all you want "because" you didn't elect them.
perhaps it has something to do with Ed Milliband himself, he doesn't have a lot of what one would call gravitas, and the recent scandal which isn't going away any day soon in Falkirk may be having an effect.
Depends on what Poll you read. The YouGov Poll gives an entirely different result ::

http://yougov.co.uk/news/2013/07/16/update-labour-lead-9/

YouGov has given a consistent Labour lead for many months. You have to go back nearly 2 and a half years to get Dave in front ::

Ed is certainly not doing as well as he should be but it doesn't seem to be reflected in Labour's overall support. Think what Labour could achieve if they really tried !

UKIP's supports seems to be slowly dripping away...no surprise there then.
you have a man who is still bound like as not to the unions, and they are not happy with Ed at the moment, listen to what Len McCluskey says, he may smile, but underneath is a very smart but ruthless operator.
in politics as in life anything can happen,
//Think what Labour could achieve if they really tried !//

Yes, just think. From the euphoria of their triumph in 1997, the stark reality of their last bash at governing this country taught me to vote Conservative. I will never vote Labour again.

Why are Labour not doing better? Perhaps people who formerly clung to an ideal have finally realised that the ideal no longer exists within the Labour Party. Labour does not represent 'the workers'.

Milliband is an embarrassment.
It would seem that there is still all to play for. We will all know for sure in May 2015. Personally I can hardly wait, mainly to see the smug BNP-lite trying to put a brave face on it, hopefully when being interviewed by Paxo !
If everything you say is true Naomi, then why isn't Dave doing a lot better than he is ? Why isn't he ahead in the Polls instead of Labour ?

According to you, he has an open goal but he just can't seem to get his foot behind the ball somehow.
