Your link appears to be broken, Em. I have reposted your link from your post in chatterbank, which does seem to work; http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2013/jul/17/taliban-letter-malala-yousafzai Less an apology, more an attempted justification from someone who believes it acceptable to use the threat of violent reprisal to elicit compliance with...

Nice work from gromit, creative way of having a dig at the western world, well done.

Apology? More like Crocodile tears.
Gromit, it's been said so many times before that the people killed in airstrikes are not specifically and personally targeted. Malala was. Do stop trying to defend the indefensible.
Well, as I said I'm sure that the Taliban would have got around to all those normal civilised things if the West hadn't intervened.
@ Mikey Well yes, they may well have done, in time. It is not the role of the UN, or the US, or ourselves, to arbitrarily decide that a country does not match up to our ideals, so we send in the military to correct that.

That would be a violation of sovereignty, illegal and unjustified unless said cointry offered a clear and present danger to the international community.

War, Military incursions, the inevitable death and destruction which follows should only ever be considered as a measure of last resort...

I am quite surprised to see you arguing otherwise....
// people killed in airstrikes are not specifically and personally targeted. //

Of course they are. They are just judged to be insignificant.

Sounds to me like it is you trying to defend the indefensible.
Gromit, I’m not defending anything – but neither am I allowing politics to cloud my rationality. Civilian casualties of war are not, in this instance, specifically and personally targeted. Malala was.
So the US bomb your school and kill you, but you were not targeted, it was the fella next to you they were trying to kill.

Definitely double standards.
Gromit, Definitely clouded rationale. No, I wouldn't have been specifically targeted - my school would have been specifically targeted. Malala was sought out and asked for by name.

em...my post was ironic...thought that was obvious.

gromit if you want to post on the facts that drones strikes kill indiscriminately, be my guest, i agree its vile, however this strangely enough is about what the Taliban, not noted for their generosity of spirit, did to not just one girl, but others, shot for going to school. Having a life, an opinion. She almost died in that attack, and i suspect that if she returns to Pakistan, they may try again.
Question Author
mikey, no sorry it wasn't clear.
No problems em...hope you are keeping cool this afternoon...29 degrees outside and not much cooler inside...not coping very well with this heat wave one little bit !
Question Author
i have had to come in, will sit outside when its a tad cooler. I am not complaining, just saying...
Gromit as usual loves to side with the terrorists. Any collateral damage is a direct cause of islamic terrorism. There would be no drones had islam not decided attack the west. We would not have forces diening in these sh1tholes. Abhorrant as they are Gromit's Taliban buddies would still be running Afghanistan etc had they not decided to back BinL et al and then put them up afterwards. They would have been left to mutilate and persecute women and generally destroy and defile averything that does not align with their extremism.

its not all the west's fault, western men didn't put a gun to her head and fire, and i suspect that those who think of arming the Syrian rebels should look to see where the weapons end up if we do. I think it's time we stayed out of their affairs. The young people in these countries deserve a chance, to live, have an education, to have a life, one that is useful, not thrown away on the dung heap of stone age thinking.
