For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.1,000 officers sounds a lot, it isn't if it does kick off, EDL thousand or more, who's to say, more perhaps of the anti fascists brigade, plus their little anarchist friends, the one's who show up at events like this, so if it does go bad, those officers may be scattered all over the shop. Seen it here, police out in numbers, but the protesters break into smaller groups and away they go... look what happened here in 2011..

Funny, lots of condemnation of the EDL on here.
But nobody from the EDL has ever put bombs on buses and trains and blown people up, nobody from the EDL has hacked an innocent person to death in broad daylight.
Nobody from the EDL is building mosques all over the country and using them to preach hate to the masses, nobody from the EDL is trying to bring sharia law into this country and ignore our current laws.
When the Nazis were planning to invade this country and change our way of life we went to war against them, now we have another invasion (from within) trying to change our way of life and most people seem happy to sit back and let it happen.
I am just glad at least one group of people is actually protesting about the problems this huge influx of Muslims has brought to this country, as our government don't seem bothered.
In 20 years time these EDL protesters will be seen as heroes, much like the suffragettes are now.
