EDL supporters were in Centenary Square from about noon while opposition groups gathered in Chamberlain Square.
Police said supporters of both events were detained for public order offences.

neither side could be said to occupy the moral high ground; there were likely to have been as many on both sides who were only there to kick heads.

Although I don't support violence no matter from whom, but little has been said regarding those opposing 'knuckle dragging, sloping browed drunken buffoons'
I refer of course to the Anti-fascist supporters, who are quick to demonstrate themselves while at the same time calling for others not to be allowed demonstrate, if that is not fascism, i don't know what is.
Incidentally the EDL were marching for the reintroduction of certain CCTV cameras in Birmingham it would seem.
/// The EDL said they were marching for the reintroduction of CCTV cameras in the Washwood Heath and Sparkbrook areas of the city. The cameras were originally installed as a counter-terrorism measure, but removed in 2011. ///

Let's be honest here the only reason they went as it's a trip out of the zoo for the apes and reason to get drunk and coked up with like minded individuals before kicking off at the end of the night with the police like all previous occasions and every future occasion and as for the "opposition" or as i like to refer to them as "Saints" they were there only because the edl were, take away supply and there won't be a demand.

"Four people have been arrested after bottles were thrown at police during an English Defence League (EDL) protest in Birmingham city centre.
Hundreds of supporters of the far-right group massed in Centenary Square, where the missiles were thrown. Opposition groups convened in Chamberlain Square.
Police said one officer had been taken to hospital with concussion.
A number of anti-EDL protesters broke through a cordon but further trouble was prevented, police said."

Oh not drunken apes from the zoo then? How very fair minded of you.
/// they were there only because the edl were, take away supply and there won't be a demand. ///
And you really believe that do you, get rid of the EDL then they would still gather to oppose, (perhaps under a different 'RED' banner), but they would still be there, until they got rid of all those who dare to oppose their ideology..

All the same insults etc thrown at the EDL as we have seen on countless occasions, but one has to ask when is a protest deemed acceptable?
Some were against the poll tax, the closure of mines, the bankers etc, etc and so took to the streets, some even made excuses for the rioting looting and destruction that took place on the streets of Tottenham, but if some are against the spread of Islam and Sharia law they are regularly lambasted on here and throughout the media.
To all those who continue to attack this particular group of protesters (the EDL) I ask this, who would be deemed acceptable to protest on such an important matter, or must all protest groups against a problem that many see as a threat to this country forced to remain silent, unless they wish to be called fascist or even deemed racist?

LOL, i keep hearing the same paranoid rumormonging mass hysteria mumbo jumbo from you guys. The uk has 63 million people in it and only 3 million or so muslims and what is the percentage of them that are extremist or want sharia law? Very small. Have you talked to any muslims in your life and asked them do they want to take over with sharia law? I have and only 1 in 10 said yes it would make life easier if everyone was muslim as well but it will never happen which is obvious and you'd get the same answer from jews, christians, buddists etc..
Have no fear and take a chill pill as every muslim isn't a screaming ruck sack carrying mass murderer rapist whose ploy is uk then world domination. Don't believe me then join a muslim forum or better still go out and visit a mosque as i did to put your mind at risk from these phantom phobias.
