We see many Far-Right protesters who have been beaten over the head by police with batons, but never hear of them making formal complaints.
Far-Left or Far-Right if they take p[art in such confrontations should expect to suffer the consequences.

From your OP, AOG, it appears that your argument is not whether an individual is able to attend a political rally and portest without fear of injury from the police -
it is that this lady is a left-wing supporter, and her rights to complain are negated by the fact that right-wing supporters choose not to exercise their democratic rights as freely and fully as she has.
As I see it, the issue is not the politicial purusasion of the injured individual, or their option to request an enquiry into an aleged assault - it is that the right under the law to be protected from injury by (as well as ellgedly from) the police is a deomcratic right, untouched by the convictions of the individual concerns, or the rate of appeal from others of an opposing political viewpoint.
"Far-Left or Far-Right if they take p[art in such confrontations should expect to suffer the consequences."
If those concequences involve violent assault resulting in injury, then no, they should not expect to suffer the consequences - not at all.

how do people know they have broken a bone

it happens, police, protesters of what ever political, or non political persuasion get in a tussle, swearing on all side most likely, and then it goes too far, you can see this from footage of previous demonstrations in the capital, how many police have been hurt in the past from thrown objects, how many got hurt in the riots of 2011, lots i suspect. If she has a case then it should be investigated.
actually you don't always know it immediately, a sprain can feel like a break, it's only on the evidence of perhaps bone sticking out, or x ray that you know for sure. You can be in excruciating pain from a sprain.. if her leg is broken, did she not ask for assistance to go the hospital, because that would be the first thing to do.
Is this a case of AoG playing the "stiff upper lip" card? :) Those with right wing tendencies are made of sterner stuff than them wishy washy long-haired, unwashed liberal-lefties?
The BNP are a legal political party - they have a democratic right to protest policies they disagree with, subject to the law of the land over the timing and location of the protests.
Similarly, because we live in a democratic society, those who find BNP policy repugnant have a democratic right to arrange a protest.
As for this woman - she may have called out "you have broken my leg" simply because it felt as if it had been broken, without necessarily knowing it was. Myself, I would have liked to have seen some kind of comment from the medical professionals treating her - I do wonder a little whether she is milking or exaggerating what happened - but of course her medical notes and treatment would be private....
And yes, of course she has a right to make a complaint. We employ a police service, whose remit is essentially to protect and serve, not uniformed hooligans willing to batter anyone in their way with a baton like that PC in the G20 protest, or kick out at protesters as appears to be the case here...
