Don't know what the fuss is about.
My Lord Howell did not say that the entire North East was desolate. What he said was that there are plenty of desolate areas in parts on England such as the North East which are far more suitable for "fracking" exploration than is the South East.
All perfectly correct and reasonable.

Nothing whatsoever Jim, but it just goes to show that the Tories are completely out of touch with what ordinary people think. This Howell chap is a Tory wonk, who thinks that everybody Opp North still keeps coal in the bath.
As I recall there is a sizeable oil operation on the South Coast, in Dorset. I don't pretend to be an expert on this area of geology but perhaps that is where BP and the like should be looking for a resource to replace the rapidly diminishing North Sea oil that we have come to depend on.
Perhaps there might be oil and gas under Guildford .....bet that would dent property prices a bit !
