sorry cant do links, but a 4 year old boy killed by his mother and step father, I thought after baby p. agencies were advised to communicate with each other, we are failing these children :(

Yes, another sad case. In defence of the agencies it can take a while to implement such major changes fully. Still a tragedy, and we can only hope that there will be fewer and fewer of these in the future.

I posted about his on the 3rd. I'm not ashamed to admit that I was crying when I posted it. I am at a complete loss as to how anyone, let alone a mother, could let this happen.
If this child had been a dog I'm convinced someone would have intervened and prevented it.

sorry jim, but It should not take agencies a while to implement such major changes, that is no excuse this childs situation should have been picked up by the numerous agencies who are supposed to protect children.

the general public are to blame too, someone must have seen or not seen this child, if you know there is a child in the house and you don't see him/her for a while then you have a public responsibilty to raise your concerns.

I don't understand how the injuries to the child were explained to the school that he had a rare genetic disorder - I thought schools needed to know about medical records for youngsters with clinical conditions.

A pretty horrible case. The boy was unlucky to have parents who drank and drugged heavily. His existance was an inconvenience and they made his life wretched. The school unfortunately believed a lie. We were not there and we do not know if it was convincing or not. No matter how much law there is and how many agencies are in place, if terrible parents are intent on physically abusing their child there is very little that can be done until the poor child is dead or hospitalised. No agencis failed in this case, only the parents are to blame.

Yes, more 'opportunities missed', lessons will be learned, no stone will be left unturned in a full and comprehensive inquiry into how so many agencies failed blah, blah, blah.

Then someone will either briefly carry the can, be severely reprimanded or take many, many months off sick as a result of the trauma of the case etc, etc, etc.

I do not have children but this story sends a chill down my spine.

They actively mistreated one of their children but fed the others. That isn't just neglect that is sadistic and evil.

Children are the most precious thing we have (after cats) yet these monsters killed their own child. There is no excuse and it is totally incomprehensible.

Dreadful story. Yet another case of everybody standing around while a small child is miss-treated. There will be an enquiry of course, but its unlikely that anybody will be held responsible, yet again.

I wouldn't normally advocate violence but in this case I hope they get what they deserve when inside.

I know no one is to blame except the vile parents, but the boy's school should have spotted something was terribly wrong. He went from being a happy, normal child to a frightened, underweight wretch scavenging for food, in a matter of months. Teacher-training includes how to spot things like this.
I repeat, though. No one else is to blame but the parents.

So the Teachers have no share of the blame then ? Presumably the neighbours must have had their suspicions as well ?

The neighbours knew it was a terrible household, but did nothing.
I can't understand them. Even if they were scared of reprisals they should have phoned the police or social services.
The teachers should have known something was wrong, but didn't notice.
