Should a block now be put on all these vile rapper's words, which to me only incite violence against women and other violence and aggression?

There are some really great white rappers.

I'm thinking specifically of Macklemore ('Thrift Shop') - but like Eminem, he doesn't try to 'sound black'.
Precisely, and B00 was (probably) conceived when "Je t'aime… moi non plus" was number 1 in the UK, quite possibly to the sound of......

So if such censorship was meted out by the sex police then, she might never have been born!
'Pretty Vacant' wasn't banned on it's release, but the Sex Pistols were viewed by the establishment as all that was wrong with kids back in 1977.

Fast forward 35 years and it's forms the centre-piece at the London Olympics closing ceremony.

Go figure.
could be, sp1814 (I'm not an aficionado... in fact I gave up listening to rap long ago), my guess is the earliest adopters will always sound like the originals, for better or worse, until they develop a distinctive voice, and this could be true of white rappers as a whole.

I suppose I was conceived when people like Vera Lynn were in the charts (not that there really were any charts), but I'm not sure what this says about me or my parents, Octavius
sp1814 I think it was God Save the Queen that was kept off the air - and that still didn't make the Olympics, unless I missed it.
'This Is Not A Rebel Song' by Sinead O'Connor was inexplicably banned by the BBC a few years ago. Presumably this action by ITV is a version of the same sort of reaction by a broadcaster worried about frightening its horses
As to banning certain lyrics objectionable as they might be I can't see the point other than to set us down a very dangerous road
jno - no, what I meant was that the Sex Pistols themselves were viewed with disdain by the establishment, which made it ironic that they would then be viewed in years to come as being part of what made Britain, Britain.
I take the point about lyrics of music being criticized by older generations and what have you - but lyrics promoting or revelling in murder and rape? Far cry from Elvis' wiggly hips or even the nihilism and anarchy of the Sex Pistols, surely?

@jno - To be clear; I am talking about the affected voice many white british rappers and hipsters use when rapping or talking about rap/hip hop music, not the tone of voice they adopt when actually performing raps.

Westwoods accent is cringe-inducing and makes him sound infantile, as it does those who emulate that self-same accent.
"lyrics promoting or revelling in murder and rape?"

Mack the Knife (Sinatra), Delilah (Tom Jones), Polly (Nirvana), Claudine (Rolling Stones) I Shot the Sheriff...Hey Joe...!!

I think its a generational shift. I dread to think what music my young girls might grow up with in later years, but it probably won't be any worse than what I have listened to.

@ Octavius and do those songs you offer actually glorify, revel and/or promote acts of rape and/or murder?

As far as I know, they do not - Claudine and Polly are both songs about real life stories, with little in them that promotes either murder or rape. Mack the Knife - wasn't that from an Opera originally? - but I do not know specifically what it is about. Marley I will grant you, inasmuch as I think his original intention was to talk about shooting the police, which he saw as some sort of justice, but being honest have not thought a great deal about the lyrics to that particular song.

And I will freely admit to not having heard the body of work by Mr Fountain here, but the clip I did hear certainly seems to revel in the idea of committing rape.

I would broadly agree with you that generations view subsequent generations music with some suspicion, but this really does seem pretty extreme. That having been said, not sure I would call for a ban - indeed, I think as many women as possible should hear what Mr. Fountain thinks of them
Oh the guy is definitely an idiot LG, but I'd quite to see this tripe disappear to be honest. Why would anyone listen to it? If it wasn't all over the news, we wouldn't have even known it existed..... or would we just suspect it did somewhere and ignore it.....
No I think he should be made to march in an EDL march
with something like 'I like Rape' around his neck !

or perhaps I am a poof

or I like being kicked....

or pehaps he should sing a narco-corrido, with a sign saying 'soy loco' on it.
Maybe it was not him he just took the ....rap for it sorry about that
What was the name of the guy who sang '' my ding a ling '' was that banned?
NO when it was on Top of the Slops
they didnt have the singer - who looked a right one I can tell you, eyes far too close together

and instead had Rolf Harris doing cartoons as the song was played.
The ding-a-ling as portrayed was a a stick, leather er thong and triple bell on it - think dingly trident

prophetic I would say Prophetic
Nice one weecalf - I nearly we+d myself to follow the phrase...
My Ding A Ling - Chuck Berry

The one by Scott Walker made me scratch my head.

Kev? How will they write him out of their storylines?
