It's not clear to me that we should even expect Asma Assad to come to this country, and if she does I don't think we should blame her even one iota for what's going on in Syria. Assuming the Syrian situation to be as bad, and as much Assad's fault, as has been portrayed, what a horrible situation she must be in! On an admittedly larger and far more bloody scale she's facing a dilemma that has plagued so many other people in love throughout history. Her husband, or everyone else? In theory, it should be an easy choice in cases like these -- but of course it never is. She might feel, or indeed might actually be, trapped. Or, perhaps, she is complicit in a conspiracy of silence herself.

Either way, stripping her of UK Citizenship would achieve nothing.

I used an inocuous comparison to highlight the flaw in the argument - you cannot visit punishment on the relatives of anyone for their actions - from newsagents to dictators - the rule is the same.
