As a punishment, it obviously wouldn't be long enough. But it says she had post-natal psychosis, so she actually should have been treated rather than punished.

Can only agree with the previous posts - post-natal depression can remove any and all of a mother's instincts that protect her child - this is an utterly tragic case, and 'punishment' does not form a part of it.

when I was working I met a lady who committed suicide because of PND. She had just had her second child, family were on the alert for it because she had it with her first, she had been sectioned into a semi secure hospital, seemed happy...well, relieved.... and grateful to be there and self aware, was complying with treatment then hiked a mile to the main road and threw herself under a car.
This poor woman will have to bear the knowledge of what she did for the rest of her life. Very sad indeed.

I think everyone apart from AOG is in agreement, this is a tragedy caused by a psychological condition - so i am interested AOG why you apparently feel that this woman should be punished, and that her punishment is not sufficient, do you have any observations please?

trig - that is true, but you must conceede that the thrust of AOG's post does indicate that he feels that 'satisfactory punishment' has not been issued here.

Of course, I along with others await AOG's response with interest.

Yes , I do think it very odd indeed - as one who has been through PND (thankfully without harming anyone) I cannot see how 'punishment' was seen to be appropriate.
