Perhaps as a Tory I should gloat over this, however I firmly believe a good Government is created by a strong opposition, if labour loose their funding then this would likely have a major impact on them being this, let alone forming a Government.

As we continually have squabbles about all parties on their funding, is it time now to come up wil a public funded solution?

In the past I have been against this, but am now having doubts.

"I don't know why people want fewer MPs, unless they think their own voice should be even less important."

I think we have to accept that they're generally a poor proxy for your own voice... so why not have fewer? It's cheaper and they can all fit in the same room then :)

It's that, or put the fatties on a diet so everyone get s a seat.

You could say my argument is allowing old men the chance to have a sit down.
I am with jno

The average constituency is 68,000 people represented by 1 MP. I certainly would not like to see that constituencies doubled.
OG, MPs are representatives of their constituents, not delegates. How do you imagine they would ever be in a position to know what these people want as regards any matter being debated/voted on? One half of their constituents may want the vote to go one way and the other half the diametrically opposite way!
So what should the MP do...go with the loudest shouters outside his constituency office? These are the very people who whinge, "The government aren't listening to us!" No, the government may not be doing what they WANT, but that's far from being the same thing as not listening. And, anyway, their demands may well not be what is best for their area or anywhere else.
