It's just a game, football fans need to seriously chill out and look at how obsessed with people they don't know, will probably never meet, have no connection with the teams they are playing for (a lot of the time) and have no positive impact on society. I'm convinced that people who get that worked up over a game of football need to be sectioned

all professional football matches should be played behind closed doors. The idea that it acceptable for tens of thousands of people to roam all over the place and cause mayhem for the locals in a bit outdated. There are plenty of "platforms" on which to carry this, the most tedious of games, and it should be consigned to Channel 94 on Mr Murdoch's Sky system.

"All clubs should be licensed, and any club where there is trouble should have their licence removed."
Ok, but this is the national teams - England & Ukraine - would/could you remove the licence of a national team.....? Seems like a good way to get an opponent spuriously removed from a competition, create a fracas and Yure's your uncle.

I have a friend who is unfortunate enough to live near to a top division football ground. Every two weeks for nine months a year he either has to go out for the day or is effectively confined to barracks for the best part of six hours. It is absolutely outrageous that vast hoardes of people, some well behaved but many not, should be encouraged to descend on a small area for their entertainment. The pubs are off limits, many of the streets are off limits, locals are herded into small areas, being unable to move freely about to do their business, the railway station is a no-go area, vehicles are "parked" everywhere and anywhere the owner sees fit to dump them, anything up to three miles from the ground. And no, the stadium was not there when he moved in.
Anything that relieves local residents all over the country of this ridiculous nonsense every other week can only be applauded.
