Indeed....
Why do we need to hold inquests at all?
We could just approach you for your thoughts on the issue and then consider the matter closed...
Because we don't want the police to shoot people without there being some sort of review process
So you want the police to just have a 'Licence to kill'?
Of course there must be an enquiry when someone is shot dead by the police or by anyone else.

If it's the Met. I thought they already had that!
Extra-judicial killing is really popular in the USA and we're gradually working our way towards the 'Starsky and Hutch' method of policing. Saves a fortune on trial procedures and prison running costs.

Hypognosis...LOL

No but in this case we know what happenned, armed known drug dealer was shot by police. Full stop! I'm not saying you should never have and inquest.

"Because we don't want the police to shoot people without there being some sort of review process "

So drug dealer is waving gun about and you want the police to have a "review" - perhaps they could ask the guy to come back later so they can have a meeting! Invite social services too!
We won't know *if* Duggan was waving a gun around until after the inquest.........which is why we are having the inquest!
The tax payer should not fund enquiries into fatal shooting by the police where there is obvious evidence that the victim deserved it. For example, visible tattoos, being an ethnic minority, not being at work during the day, wearing lots of bling etc should give our fair minded police officers carte blanche to blaze away.
the police have never shot anyone by mistake?

///Armed police, who gave evidence anonymously, described how they had opened fire on Mr Duggan on Ferry Lane because they saw him get out of a taxi holding a loaded gun.///

They saw another man with a Chair-leg earlier and executed him as well.

..as for Brazilian fare dodgers
I meant an 'after the event' review process, so police know they will need to be able to justify having shot someone

and Newspaper sellers!
Blimey you don't want to set off another riot do you TTT?

We need to ensure that what the police did was right in the circumstances - unless of course, you think that we should subjugate judicial process by reviewing what was in the papers?

Because right now, that's the only source of information about this case.
Should be interesting to see, if the inquest doesn't go the way some would wish it to go.

But I suspect the 'sacrificial lamb' will have to be slaughtered, so as to keep matters calm.
What about the guy Mendes was it? who was shot 7 times in the head just because he was seen to come out of a house where the police thought a terrorist gang was hiding? In that case they were wrong on all counts , wrong house, wrong guy, wrong description, they just panicked and shot him.
AOG

I'm not sure what you mean.

It's almost as if you're saying that in order to maintain peace, someone needs to 'answer' for this.

Is that what you mean, or have I misunderstood?
