Morrison's Supermaket Offends A Muslim Customer

I would be very careful to feed my children anything that had been reduced from 85p to 19p.

But what seemed to be the straw that broke the camels back was the fact that he was offered a bottle of Champagne as compensation, since Muslims don't drink????????
But anyway the manager didn't say her had to drink it, he could have sold it on.
But he was lucky to be offered any kind of compensation from Morrisons because on numerous occasions I have been charged incorrect prices on goods that have been labelled half price or buy one get one free etc,
Was I offered compensation for having to drive back to the store to obtain a refund? No instead I was forced to queue at customer services and then take part in cross questioning, then wait while a store worker checked out the offer on the self, before finally receiving the balance of cash back.
Surely Mr Khan there must be plenty of Muslim shops who would be sure to serve you and your family with Muslim acceptable food, but I don't know about being given a 66p discount on a 85p item.

For a devout Muslim, this is not a matter of 'pathetic trvial nonsense'.
A lot of eeastern faiths vary considerably from their Chrisitain counterparts in that aspects of their faith are woven into their daily lives in a way that makes their faith far more intrinsic than the Christian faith.
That means that for devout Muslims, the issue of consuming non-Halal meat is a serious offence for them to Allah, and not 'trivial nonsense'.
It is easy to belittle anyone's devotion to anything as trivial - simply because it appears so to our Western sensibilities - but putting oneself in the shoes of another is the first step towards tolerance and understanding.
You would not accept such belittling and dismissal of your gay friends - nor should you - so why do you assume it is appropriate here?

If the chap were Jewish and the store apologised by sending him half a roast pig and he complained, would you not say, "Hey...come on...everyone knows that Jews don't eat pork products!!!"

sp, you are being a bit simplistic about what people of various persuasions may or may not eat. I was at a barbecue a couple of weeks back,at least 5 people present were either Jewish or had some Jewish ancestry, we all enjoyed the food including the roast pork and pork sausages which was cooked by our host ...a Jew. What a vegetarian will eat is anyone's guess. As for Halal meat, how many non muslims would let it pass their lips?
To clarify to the ones who "Know" a Muslim, Jew or Christian who drinks, gambles or cheats

They are still Muslim, Jewish or Christian if they do wrong doing but are then classed as sinners so don't think that all within these religions do the same or it is permissible as it isn't.

I don't know where this quote (paraphrased) comes from, perhaps someone could fill me in but
"The unreasonable person expects the world around them to change to accomodate his (her) needs, wants and desires. The reasonable person adjusts their behaviour to fit in with their surroundings and only gets the needs, wants and desires which the world sees fit to fulfil."
There's no shortage of contrary equivalents, along the lines of "don't change yourself to suit anybody else". Make of that what you will.

I think that if you are talking to a representative of a food retailer, then you can certainly expect that person to be au fait with what people do and don't eat...because that's core to your business.
If I ran a food shop and wanted to apologise to a vegetarian, I would not do so with a 16oz steak. I see it as common sense.

I think it's perfectly valid for a Muslim to assume that people know that they don't drink alcohol.
Same with vegetarians...we all know that they don't eat meat.
I think we have gotten to a point know where most people just know.

No - he told them that his family are Muslims when he complained about the meat pasty being labelled as a cheese slice.
After that, you could argue that perhaps that Morrisons could have handled the complaint better...
...and to be honest, I don't think the customer did himself any favours going to the papers, because what happens now is that people add this to their 'complaining Muslims' ledger, not realising that for every one story like this, there are loads which are just laughed off.
