As we all suspected a complete white wash. Despite many professionals, like Teachers, Police Officers, Social Services being presented by overwhelming evidence that this little chap was being treated appallingly, nobody did anything. And nobody is to blame apparently. Nobody will have any sanctions made against them.

I heard something on the Today program this morning that made brought tears to my eyes. He was kept in a small wooden box, for hours on end. Part of the evidence was that little finger and finger nail marks were found inside the box, as he made desperate attempts to escape. If I close my eyes, I can see those marks.

I despair that something like this can happen in Britain today, and nobody is held respeonsible.

Knowing the bigger picture shold not have come into it. Basic safeguarding practice should have been implemented on the basis of what was already known.

failure all round, the parent and her odious boyfriend killed him but the authorities did nothing of note.
The box story is appalling. Today also said that nobody actually asked the child - but in a multicultural city like Coventry, a class can be full of many youngsters with multiple home languages, they only get more fluent in English through exposure at school. This poor kid never had time to do that, and nothing in his home life would have helped, either. The Today speaker said it's time everyone got more cynical about reasons being put forward by parents and carers about child health - but that may lead to people being accused wrongly.
if they were truly concerned why did they not get an interpreter, he was at risk, some obviously thought so as he had been seen by many, but no one acted in a common sense, humane way.

I'm so sad for the lad, they all let him down, teachers, police, social services, I don't know how they all live with themselves. I hope his killers are never released sadly that hope is forlorn.
Agree with everything that has been said, I myself can't even bring myself to look at the photos of little Daniel, how the poor little chap must have suffered.

I may be challenged by some for saying this, but this is what crossed my mind and i feel it must be said, I wonder if the fact that his Mother (and I hate to attach that word to the monster who brought this poor child into the world) was Polish, and officials were carefully pussy footing around the broken glass in case they themselves were accused of something or other, we all know how careful one has to be, not to attract the wrath of the Political Correctness God.
nothing to do with her nationality, they indicated she was a good liar, though how you can't see that the boy had lost so much weight he was skeletal is beyond me. If you think it's nationality, how about Baby Peter, and all the others than pass through the system, and don't get treatment,
No, AOG, that hadn't occurred to me to me ,and now you've pointed it out I still fail to see the relevance of her nationality.

The sad case of Daniel P's cruelty says to me that us good ol' Brits are equally capable of this behaviour and the authorities were just as inept there too.
'lessons will be learn' it's patently obvious from past cases that this isn't true

I wouldn't have thought that the nationality had anything to do with it. Just careless professionals not doing their jobs properly, safe in the knowledge that they be as useless as they like, and still get paid and retain their jobs.

They will all be on the news tonight, and Newsnight as well, saying how over-worked they all are. Pathetic.
let down by the agencies that are in place to protect them, social services are just one, the police, the school, don't understand this case at all, not when you read the terrible list of injuries

*** No, AOG, that hadn't occurred to me to me ,and now you've pointed it out I still fail to see the relevance of her nationality. ***

It has been known in other cases.

These excerpts were taken from a news report concerning the Northern child grooming cases.

/// Police, prosecutors and social workers must be able to raise the issue without fear of being accused of racism, the committee said. ///

/// They accused councils in Rochdale and Rotherham of being ‘inexcusably slow’ to realise sex abuse was taking place on their doorstep. ///

/// This must be acknowledged by official agencies who, we were concerned to hear in some areas of particular community tension, had reportedly been slow to draw attention to the issue for fear of affecting community
cohesion. ///

AOG- there's no link between this case and the ones you've quoted from, and to be brutally frank i find it extremely repellant that you're trying to use this tragedy as point scoring in your mind, in your ever continuing angst against other races.

In fact I find your thinking really, really offensive.
these are little children, not slightly older girls groomed for sex. These cases come to light generally after the poor mite has been abused then eventually killed by the parent, or boyfriend/girlfriend, it's a vile case in a long line of vile cases.

Here's an example of one of the professionals ringing her hands in grief. What a pity that she and her Teachers didn't act upon the evidence in front of their eyes. The stealing of food, the loss of weight and the multiple bruises that Daniel displayed.

Gill Mulhall said: "The tragic death of Daniel has had a devastating effect on our school and he will be remembered by everybody who came into contact with him."

no so much so that they actually did someone useful for him, like call the police, and tell them the state he was in.
"had we known the bigger picture of course we would have acted differently" woman on the radio news, i think she was from the school, i hope they feel a sense of shame at least.

I am sorry that you find my thinking extremely repellent and really, really offensive, but then you are free to express your thoughts, which I should also be allowed to do, also I cannot be held responsible for your obviously over sensitive mind set.

Luckily we do not yet have thought police, even though some on AB would willingly volunteer if the post became possible.

/// Trying to use this tragedy as point scoring in your mind, in your ever continuing angst against other races. ///

But before you show your disgust etc at other people, please make sure that they are guilty of what you have accused them of.

No way was I point scoring or even continuing any feeling of anxiety against other races, can you not see that it is the authorities that I am criticising and not any foreigners?
