one of the two women looks set to plead guilty, perhaps the other will follow suit, however there was an indication that if they do, a lesser sentence will be offered and that maybe it could be served in UK
do you think that would be right?

if this happens it seems to me to send the wrong message about drug smuggling.

I don't think it's uncommon, the host country probably doesn't want to pay the cost of putting them in prison. I wouldn't have a problem if we did this to be honest, infact I wish we did.

what about all the other British banged up in foreign prisons, many for drug related issues, smuggling, dealing. Do we get them back here then spend an inordinate amount of taxpayers money on them, if the crime was committed in a foreign country... if it's a lesser sentence over drug smuggling doesn't that give out wrong message about taking a chance to make some money and if caught it might not cost you much jail time...

Well you could look at as they're our citizens, our problem, aside from the fact how many non Brits are in our prisons that we could turf back to their own country, it'd free up places for our home grown.

If it was reciprocal then the UK would be the winners. Our jails are cushy and don't deter foreigners, if they thought they would be sent back to a proper jail maybe they would think twice or do it somewhere else.

However it would never happen, the 'ooman rights brigade would soon be pushing the HRA and we would be stuck with both lots.

so in summing up; No they should serve their sentence in the country they committed the crime.

apart from open prisons, which may be somewhat cushier, i doubt they are all that cushy, perhaps they would be in comparison to the hell holes some seem to get themselves banged up in, we have moved on from that haven't we?

human rights would come into play if they have the remotest chance of their staying here. Right to family life has been used for foreign criminals to stay in Britain.
