1) it's an appalling story
2) Islam just sanctified a number of pre-existing tribal practices across the middle East, Africa and beyond so let's not go there
3) we have no comprehension of the consequences that living in a pre- industrial economy and deeply patriarchal society bring in situ
4) the day after the Pelka serious case review report and when a woman stands trial for living with her dead child's corpse for two years, I'm not sure I feel any moral high ground here about childrens' treatment more generally tbh

Sick and twisted.
And this page mentions how much aid the EU sends to Yemen every year. (Does that mean Yemen has no oil production?)

Yes, let’s go there. Instead of making excuses for it, it's high time the whole world opened its eyes and addressed this issue. As the article says “It seems incredible that this sort of thing still happens in our world.” This is the 21st century, not the 7th. There is no justification for this, and it deserves none.
Eddie, //Yemen and Saudi Arabia both have no minimum legal age for marriage//
The Koran sets no minimum age for marriage – in fact it gives clear advice to men on divorcing wives who have not yet menstruated.
//The Koran tells us that Mohammed, the founder of Islam had several brides the youngest of whom was 8.//
Mohammed actually married Aisha when she was six and consummated the marriage when she was nine. Her own records of her life from age six make unsavoury reading.

TTT, no, it’s not really news. Little girls are regularly being married to grown men – and the practice isn’t restricted to third world countries. It’s happening here, in the UK, too. How anyone can compare this on-going evil to the case of the poor child who was starved to death by his disgusting excuse of a mother defies reason. No child should be abused in any way – and one wrong doesn’t justify multiple wrongs. Sickening!

You may not but I do. The reason is because starving your child to death isn't seen as acceptable behaviour by our society, but having sex with 8 year olds is by theirs.
