Since the school had not previously put a restriction on what could or what could not be worn, were they out of order in making the pupil remove the said uniform?

Pity this piece was in the Guardian, I am sure if it had been the Daily Mail, they may have shown a photograph on the pupil in the Hitler Uniform complete with a little moustache, instead of just showing us the real thing, as if we had forgotten what Hitler looked like.

WW2 theme, without the villain is nonsense.

The school was well out of order in my opinion.
"Parents were not told in the letter the kids could only dress up as the goodies," complained Davina. If they'd only wanted stiff-upper-lipped RAF officers and perky little evacuees from the East End of London, they should have said so. It takes two to make a war."

It seems the school failed to foresee this possibility and failed to set out any appropriate guidelines eg no swastikas

0/10 for school organisers
agree with Sqad. What's the point of a WW2 event if everyone's dressed as Churchill?

I might have drawn the line at anyone dressed as a concentration camp commandant, say. But Hitler was a leading figure in the war and can hardly be ignored.
It was when he threatened to invade Miss Andrzejewski's class that things became a bit heated, I believe.
Errors in dress code can reach up to the bluest blood in the land. Didn't a prince go to a party dress an an Afrika Corp soldier?
Zac....LOL
Its like having a Western Themed party and banning Indians (or cowboys depending which side you're on)
Exactly, sqad. This was predictable really. Why have a WW2 day, anyway? I think the school are being ridiculous.

Zing!
Pixie I think it was probably to do with the curriculum the WW2 day. Clary junior has been making a ration book for school and researching WW2 stuff on the net
> if you're invited to a fancy-dress or war-themed party, go as Churchill. <

just don't smoke
Daft ! Can't think of any character more relevant. After all, they started it under him. Yes they did, they annexed the Sudetenland !
girls can go as Vera Lynn
Yes, i expect it was, clarys, although i think asking them to dress up and then being sensitive about it, is a little odd.
I suppose it could have been worse...........he could have gone as Liberace.
Or Eva Braun. Though what she looked like doesn't come readily to mind. Did Adolph like to keep his professional and private life separate?
Idiots. Saying that dressing as Hitler trivialises the holocaust is a bit like saying that dressing like a soldier trivialises their sacrifice.
I suppose if he'd really wanted to be controversial he could have gone as Ralph Miliband. The Mail would have covered the story then.
I wonder if any parent had the imagination to have their child dress up as a Bevin Boy: coal impregnated face and hands; helmet with lamp attached; and perhaps a pickaxe (rubber of course:)).
Pretty poor form by the school. Perhaps the parent and family could have checked first, but even then I think the school's in the wrong.
