We do not know if the eastern European 'sroungers' were checked or not. Probably a lot were.

I'm quite aware of that Gromit but if they can check UK citizen's so easily which they seem to do, surly they should check Eastern Europeans more thoroughly as most just come over here as they know we are a soft touch and hardly any checks are made.

Maybe the Czechs did not any previous convictions. I believe we do invesigate applicants from outside the EU and bar many. We cannot do that with EU residents.

I don't think a criminal record in one EU country bars you from travelling to another EU country, so until the law is changed, checks would not achieve anything.

We all know foreigners commit crimes ChillDoubt, we don't need dozens of links to know that.

The advanced passenger information procedure introduced in 2005 was intended to collect passenger information before any one enters the country. But a third are not checked, and the very expensive system hasn't resulted in a single person being denied entry

Australia have it right, If you have a criminal conviction you are not allowed in, and sent back where you come from, PRONTO.

this is not just the UK is it, as pointed out they are hitting countries in Europe and causing mayhem, pickpocketing is a horrible crime i know because it's happened twice, and some of these lowlifes are right here in the capital, begging and selling the big issue, come on that is just a con

America has a lot of stipulations on getting a visa before you can go there, have a look at their website, bit long winded mind you.

A UK Visa is also very strict. But we are talking about EU migration for which you do not need a VIsa.

big problem with visa's into UK is there doesn't seem to be way to check when the visa is up, so many students, travellers, overstay their welcome and some never go home..
