some have been looking the other way whilst far right groups have been coming out of the woodwork, Ms Le Pen is an old hand now, and there are more like her and men in the wings, make no mistake, not only does France have this problem so do many other European countries.

The French National front have had MPs before. Marion Le Pen was elected last year.
There have been boats sink in the Mediterranean full of refugees before.

So I am not sure what is new about this report.

Immigration is always going to be more of an issue at times of recession and high unemployment.

It is interesting that the UK may see it's immigrattion worries solved by other EU member countries.

The worries in this country are mirrored throughout the major EU countries and, as usual, the far right are taking advantage.

Gromit, your usual blase stance rather worries me. This is a real threat and the last think we want is a return to right extremism in Europe. The so called liberal 'elite' ignored this 60 years ago - to their peril (date not exact before you stat being you usual pedantic self in the absence of argument)

Mass migration becomes particularly important at times of economic downturns, there can be no doubt about that. But it should be a source of concern for all, the net migration from the southern hemisphere to the northern hemisphere in terms of resource planning and everything else that comes with it. And the fear of immigration does tend to fuel far right parties, far right views, and again that should be source of concern.

we should be concerned over immigration, the fact is our economy is still not risen sufficiently to start taking in more boarders, we should be concerned at the levels of population we have now, and we also should be concerned that those who have come from far and wide may not be here to work or be friendly, but have an ulterior motive. according to the latest reports though i cannot provide a link as such as this was on the radio news there are upwards of a thousand terror suspects living in Britain, if so that is enough - if only a fraction are out to cause harm then our security forces will have a large job on their hands.

Nothing new in this in France. Marie le Pen's father stood for President of the Republic. He survived the early rounds and ended up as the only challenger, though he was heavily defeated in that final round.

I'm with Gromit on this in the sense that there is nothing new here, especially in France.
Doesn't mean it isn't serious. The question is how do you react to it? Indulge them and become intolerant yourself, or stand up them.
But, as always, economic hardship breeds extemism. Greece is a worse example I'd have thought.

this has been a big problem for Greece, a Greek friend said some years ago that Albanians in particular were having a major impact on crime in Greece.

not sure they are extremists, but it is not without merit that some may well be and can gain a foothold in the country and once there hard to remove.

The fascist National Front Party in France was founded in 1972, long before the EU existed. In their time they have won councillors, MEPs and MPs. The far right are not about to take over France. I am not being blase, extremists groups will do better at times of economic crisis, because people need someone to blame, and immigrants fit that bill. (hence the rise in UKiP and the EDL)

I see absolutely not coonection between immigrants drowning in the Mediterranean sea and the far right winning an election in France.

You can't really blame the EU for people wanting to leave Africa, that has been happening for thousands of years. You wouldn't blame the EU for us electing a Coalition Government, so why credit them with a minor bye election win for someone in France?

Whilst what you say is true, I am personally worried that Europe could easily drift to the far right. And I really dont want that to happen.

We live in a free country and it is your prerogative to dismiss my fears as nothing, but remember what happened last time in Europe that happened. 50Million dead later ....

A bit of persective. The French National Front win a bye election in a small town no one has heard of. They have won elections before. It is a huge jump to world domination and tens of millions dead.

We should keep an eye on the slight blip of support for far right groups in Europe. But at the moment we shouldn't lose ant sleep over it.
