After all the violence behind drinking, deaths from it, drunk drivers etc.
But that's not *you* is it - you'd not get schlerosis, or liver cancer or thump someone while drunk
I dare say most drug addicts think it wont happen to them - or dont care if it does

Gromits analogy doesn't work for me either. We're he to compare the deaths to those who had died as the result of a binge or a reaction to the toxins then I think he would have point.
The vast majority of the 8,790 would have been drinking over a long sustained period of years and will have died as a result slow degradation. Their reasons and motivations for drinking are not comparable to that of the thrill seeking drug taker.

I think what Dave's saying is there's no immediate risk in having a few beers.
However, when you take something like the substance here, there's always an element of 'russian roulette' about it, and he's wondering why people would consider such a gamble to be worth it.

In England/Wales, during 2010/11, There were 20,000 recorded admissions due to alcohol poisoning, or 350 cases per week, which is directly attributed to reckless overconsumption in a very short space of time - binge drinking.
In 2010 alone, in England and Wales, there were 188 deaths directly attributable to alcohol poisoning, or binge drinking.
And whilst I fully accept the coroners comments regarding the dangers of drug abuse, and the dangers represented by this drug, I also note that much of the danger comes from the poor quality control in its manufacture.
And you also have to take into account the quantity and range of substances these 2 had taken during the evening. Large quantities of alcohol and cocaine, to name just 2. So its doubtful that their deaths, however tragic, can be attributed solely to the use of PMA.
Personally, I would be leery of taking anything called Dr. Death, but others commenting here are right - there is amongst the young a belief in their own immortality - that nothing can happen to them, but sadly at least some of them are going to be proven wrong.
