Perhaps we should all go into Tesco's wearing burkas and sunglasses.

I for one will not be shopping there any more.

I don't actually understand how we will then receive this targeted advertising, anyone know?
What a cheek!
isn't it the petol stations though, not the shop
if tesco want to waste their money like this......
That's going to be hillarious during the teething problems when the middle aged men in front of you in the line get adverts for sanitary towels thrown up.

I wonder if Tesco have thought this through enough!
I always pay at the pump so it won't affect me.

Very true Jake, might be worth going just for the amusement factor!

You may pay at the pump but all it needs is a screen on the pump or forecourt to catch you too. And if you use your clubcard, well, no hope.
I don't see the problem. We're all scanned by CCTV every time we go into a shop anyway.

I think there are displays at the checkout. If the software thinks you look a bit fat, you'll be presented with an advert for slimfast or something. If you are wearing a burkha it'll be prayer mats and vitamin D supplements.
It's not the Tesco stores, it's the petrol stations, and we rarely get our fuel there anyway.
What's the point of advertising something at the till? You're hardly going to go back and get what they're tying to sell you. Simon....You're fired.

But you seem happy to use Answerbank that has targeted advertising (unless you have an advert blocker)

I was searching the internet for some furniture yesterday and when I went back in to AB later all the adverts round the edge were for furniture.
In Tesco most people will swipe a Clubcard. That's how they will know who you are and how you'll be targeted.
Prudie, the scanner will guess your age and gender, then the small screen at the till will show adverts supposed to be of interest to people like you.

The scanner will not try to identify you, your picture will not be stored or tied to any other data about you.
Of course I use my clubcard in Tesco. I am very aware of the advantage to Tesco and the advantage to me and I'm happy to use it.
I'm okay, I'll be too short for the scanner.............
How strange not one single 'a non story' accusation.
i suppose that means i will be inundated with viagra adverts, which i have no interest in :-)
The scanners are being made by Amstrad.

Famous for their...errr...quality electronics.

Never bother reading adverts on AB or in the paper, or magazines. Read a book or go to the loo when TV adverts are on.
perhaps they'll give you a voucher with your receipt for something Off at Tesco's. I still don't see the point of it. They won't know who I am if I don't proffer my clubcard.
