You have written many times of your National Service.
If you fought in the second World War, say so.
You didn't. You were a child during the war. Why are you pretending you fought the Nazis when you didn't. You should come clean and stop your lying.
The only thing my grandfather would be ashamed of is that fascist sympathisers like you are still around.

Baldric
Are you still going on about that Baldric? Change the record for goodness sake, are you not aware that I did not design that avatar myself it was an image taken of the internet.
For example, I never noticed you criticising all the Olympic 'heroes' who displayed our National Flag upside down.

Such a massive consensus of opinion.
Made me chuckle.
AOG - so what regiment did you fight in during WWII?
The Childrens' Royal Artillery Corp?
I ask, because through various posts, I've worked out that it is not possible for you to have fought in any war...except perhaps the Falkland war.
As for the original question - it deserves an honest answer...and I don't think we are being taken over by the third world. The largest influxes over the past ten to twenty years have been those who have professional qualifications and/or come from the Eastern bloc of countries. I doubt whether many would consider these places to be called 'third world'.

And you accuse me of lies, I make it a rule not to divulge any personal information regarding myself, except for one instance when I disclosed that I once served in the RAF.
And I also take exception to you calling me a fascist sympathiser Sir, so much so that I will now cease joining you in any further debate.

/// The people who come here looking a new life, as refugees or economic migrants, won't drag us down. They'll benefit us all. ///
I hope you remember those words of yours, when you will have to wait hours in your local NHS A and E, or days to see a doctor, or someone close to you cannot get a job, or a house, or even the fact that a child of theirs cannot get in the school; of their choice because it is full of immigrant's children.
Wake up to the fact that we are a small Nation, and our limited infrastructure is bursting to capacity.
Take in the New Year, when the whole of Romania and Bulgaria and sometime in the future shortly to be followed by Turkey will be allowed into Britain?
Not saying that they all will, that would be just silly, but the fact remains no one knows how many will decide to 'up sticks' and move to Britain (or more correct, England) there are already some firms who are advertising jobs solely in those two countries,

In the 19th Century it was the Jews from Eastern Europe and the Irish who came. After WW11 a lot of Polish people settled here, and more since. People from the Caribbean came and helped keep our health service and transport system running.
They've all contributed to our society and we'd be much poorer as a nation without them.

/// True, Labour made mistakes on immigration. ///
/// When we came to power in 1997 we had to tackle the complete chaos in the Asylum system, when just fifty members of staff were dealing with 71,000 asylum applications every year. ///
/// Labour created the position of Immigration Minister to bring real focus to these issues right across government. ///
/// But although we were right to introduce the points based system in 2008, we should have done that far earlier. ///
/// And when the new A8 countries joined the EU we were so focused on economic growth that when Germany, France and Italy all put in transitional controls on new EU workers, we went it alone. ///
/// The result? A far higher number of people came to work here. ///
Will we see a repeat of this in 2014?

So no denial then - just weasely evasion
aog would need to be at least 86 years of age in order to have taken an active part in WW2
If he is, and did; why not say so?
What's the big deal? What does he have to hide?
Is the fact that one lives through WW2 but was too young to take part and was then called up for National Service when it was all over something to be frustrated or embarrassed by?
I can appreciate that might be so: close but no cigar (or campaign medals)
Perhaps that lack of active involvement might be felt to negate the authority of experience one might like to claim over younger people who weren't around at all?

From the same speech AOG cheery picked above
// Labour have concerns about immigration, about the pace of migration, about the undercutting of workers' terms and conditions, about the effect on the UK labour market. //
// And any country that tries to turn its back on the get up and go energy and the cultural vitality that migrants can bring to an economy, is likely to lose its place in the world. //
// In short, the government’s immigration policy adds up to cheap and nasty gimmicks rather than serious proposals or practical measures to tackle illegal entry. //

The usual excuses and looking back in the history books to try and excuse the enormous mistake of uncontrolled immigration.
jno, perhaps what you say may be quite true but that does not address the total mess that has been caused by not putting some form of limitation on what skills we allow into the country.

Once again your delving into the history books is also quite true, but you have failed to produce the actual numbers of Jews, Irish and Poles who came here, minimal to the vast numbers we are taking in now I suspect, and I also agree regarding those from the Caribbean who came to work in our NHS or drive some of our buses (although this is a bit of a myth, since we managed perfectly well during WW2 when the driving was done by our own women) but taking what you said on board, yes we should invite those into this country that can be beneficial to us, but I am afraid those are in the minority.
It is interesting to note however that you haven't mentioned those from the Indian sub-continent, most of whom have indeed been very beneficial to this county in the roles of Doctors, Nurses, Pharmacists, Opticians, IT etc, etc.
