My Dad was in the RASC in WW11. Served in the Western Desert. Returned , thankfully, relatively unscathed. Broken shoulder, playing rugby before being shipped abroad, recurring Sandfly fever which was pretty nasty.
In lieu of a lullaby he would sing to me:
Way down, way down on the Suez,
Way down on the Suez canal,
Where man's best friend is his topi and gun,
Way down on the Suez canal.
R stands for Royal
Royal the pride of the line.
A stands for the Action we saw,
Down in Old Palestine.
S stands for the Service we give,
Morning, noon and night.
C stands for the Colours we wear,
Blue, yellow and white.
Anybody else heard it? He hated dates and sand.
