What about a new design? Be nice to incorporate Wales somehow.

Without getting into what actually constitutes a country, the UK consists of two countries (England and Scotland), a principality (Wales) and a province (Northern Ireland). Remove Scotland, and there's no kingdom for England to be united with.
If by some miracle Northern Ireland were to become incorporated into Eire, then that would leave England and Wales, a bit like Bosnia and Herzegovina or Antigua and Barbuda.
Now THAT's funny!

i would be happy with that, just England, get the rest of the bludgers off our back, as long as they take their fair share of of the next batch of immigrants from 2014, Bulgarian, Romanian. because it's England they seem to head to - can we parcel them out somehow. As to the flag, Red and white sounds good.
Surely St Andrews Cross because if Scotland goes independent we should apply to amalgamate with them in a subordinate role. Move our capital city and (fewer) Westminster govt members of parliament to Edinburgh. Similarly move Buck House to Balmoral.
Result - better education, health service, cheaper oil and a serious government to replace the English snouts-in-the-trough philosophy.

If Scotland gains independence, there will be loads of questions to consider, and flags will be fairly down the list, IMO.
What do you think of these, all assuming Salmond succeeds next year?
1) Will Scotland retain QE2 as nominal head of state and become a member of the Commonwealth?
2) Will Scotland become a full member of the EU, thereby adopting the Euro, as I don't believe that's optional.
3) If Scotland doesn't become a member of EU, will it continue to use the pound sterling as its currency?
4) Will Scotland become a full member of the Commonwealth AND the EU, like Cyprus and Malta?
5) If Scotland becomes a full member of the EU, will that mean they will have to honour Schengen, like Iceland? If so, will Westminster then insist on border patrols and formal crossing points? Would we see a border fence through Berwick-upon-Tweed?
6) Will Scotland set up its own independent military? Defence is important, of course, but is any country seriously going to invade Scotland?
7) Obviously, an independent Scotland would become a full member of the United Nations straightaway, but would it also join NATO?
8) Would it join EFTA, given the close links between Shetland and Norway, the oil notwithstanding?
9) Would Scotland share embassies, consulates and high commissions (assuming commonwealth) with England?

jeffa, i think i mentioned Mr Salmond wants to keep her Maj, nice.
it shouldn't be allowed to keep the pound, it should have to join the EU, it will be separate from England, so time to sort out the armed forces, who wants to stay in Scottish armed forces, and be a Scottish serviceman, not a British serviceman/woman, daft isn't it..
pay it's own way, own tax, NI system, make it's own rules, regulations on everything, so that Westminster doesn't continually get blamed for their woes every time something goes tits up.
I just can't see any of this happening somehow, you just can't pick and choose what bits you want to keep, it should be all or nothing.
siq, so no Scot has had their hand in the till, or done a misdeed, where have you been lately.
