Just thought I would enter this on behalf of sp1814, because I think he may be a little shy considering that he has been criticising me for repeating the same stories even though mine were years apart.

Well, because the law states that people who are operating a business aren't allowed to make you feel unwelcome purely on grounds of your sexual orientation - because the law is written on the assumption that all consensual adult lifestyles that don't harm others are valid.
There's also the fact that, if you remember, the B&B's "christian" credentials weren't heavily advertised on its website, and the couple were turned away upon arriving.

It didn't happen like that.
They had booked beforehand and only once they arrived were they told that they could not have a double room, because they were gay.
So for no fault of their own, they were forced to find another guest house late in the evening.
They then decided this was not acceptable.
Two courts have agreed with them.

I can;t find anywhere that jack has suggested an instance of a gay guest house owner turning a straight guest away on the grounds of sexuality - have I missed something?
But while on the point - that would be sexual discrimination, and I would hope that said owner was prosecuted.
Like i said, the law is the law, not the law unless your faith says yon don't have to bother obeying it.

The minority is always right - Ibsen - Enemy of the people
Be right 20 y in advance - everyone thinks you are mad, be right 5 y in advance and they all think you are a prophet
The hotel couple if they are gonna trade bave to abide by the law.....
and it can be very expensive if you dont,,,,

"I would expect better from a sensitive and caring gay couple. "
I don't know what kind of cartoon image you have in your head of gay people, jom, but they are just people like anyone else. And like anyone else, they get annoyed when self-righteous Christians discriminate against them illegally and perhaps don't feel particularly inclined to just put up with it.

Vindictive for refusing to accept that they were being illegally discriminated against? What a peculiar notion.....
My partner and I have stayed in many hotels, etc. and it has never occurred to me to 'warn', or ask ,the proprietors in advance if the nature of our relationship might sully their establishment.
I would also feel tremendously aggrieved, to have to spend a portion of my time away trying to find alternative accommodation......

SP, you really ought to tell Jom, you know. It’s his word - he led me astray. ;o)
To be perfectly honest, I’d rather they had treated it with the contempt it deserved.
Actually, I find all these funny words and acronyms rather juvenile. If gays want to be treated equally, why make such a fuss about being gay - and why stereotype people? Doesn’t that encourage divide? I don’t understand that.

Not true Andy, Sexual Discrimination legislation applies to what sex you are not how you get your jollies."
Thanks for that - like a man in orthopaedic shoes, I stand corrected.
(Adopts Jazz Man voice - "Jollies? Mmmmm, nice!"

That's because people are always willing to assume that two women will be friends who don't mind sharing, but two men must be at it like rabbits, no doubt with coke and rent boys on the side!

Maybe they knew the "Crystal Methodist" Mr. Flowers, and their assumptions were formed out of that knowledge? :)
