Why The Need For Such Discriminatory Awards?

Whereas I have every admiration for this young girl, but was there a need to bestow on her the title of 'the country’s most influential Asian', at this year’s GG2 Leadership and Diversity Awards?

Once again I stress this is not about her not being worthy of such an award, only the point of why is it necessary to hold such awards?

The same being said regarding this award,

That's the Mail's twist on it. What she actually won, and rightly so, was the Hammer Award, the highest award given by the GG2 Leadership Award.

I don't mind this award even though you could argue that there's no equivalent award for non-Asians.

All awards are discriminatory by their very definition.

"Best Album" - can only be won by a music artist who has released an album.

"Footballer Player of the Year" - can only be won by someone who has played football very well in the last year.

The GG2 Hammer Award, which is given to individuals who have broken through the glass ceiling, was handed to Miss Yousafzai and her two friends Kainat Riaz and Shazia Ramzan.

we have oscars and grammys and baftas, & nobel prizes, why not these? they honour people who have stood up for themselves and others, breaking barriers, seems like a good thing to me

I would suggest that there is such a constant stream of negative stories regarding Asians in general, that positive stories such are this are needed to redress the balance?
