Fred - I think counsel will always have a punt, even if they have nothing to lose - because they will receive their fees either way.
The appeal has been rejected
Glad to hear it
Ed...I would like to think that Philpot is not appealing his sentence because he thinks its about right, I really would. But it is more likely because a belated grip on reality has at last taken hold and he realises that an appeal would be useless. His lawyer has probably advised him as well.

May he and his stupid wife rot in hell.
ummmm

/// I don't think she's an evil person. She spent years being dominated, controlled and bullied by that vile man. ///

/// She wasn't part of the planning, she was made to go along with it and was probably too scared to stand up to him. ///

/// Guilty of gross stupidity, being weak and lacking brain cells. ///

/// I have no compassion for her either. ///

Sounds all rather compassionate to me, I don't know what others think?

aog...we don't always agree but I am with you on this one. This stupid Philpot woman thought it was OK to share her husband with another woman ( who lived in a caravan in their driveway, if my memory serves me right ) She lived with Philpot for years and continued to allow herself to impregnated by him, a convicted criminal. She had ample opportunity to leave and take her kids to a place of safety but she declined to do so. If she had done, then those lovely children would still be alive. In the end she was complicit in murdering her children.

So, I have no sympathy with her at all, and even less for those that try to make out that didn't have a choice in her lifestyle. The picture of her kids that was used by the media at the time of the trial will remain with me for a long time.

Again, may she rot in hell for what she has done.
Evil woman.

I'm sure she will get what she deserves, in prison and probably also when she gets out.

Arguing the toss over manslaughter/murder is of little difference to those killed at her hands in a particularly horrific way.
Okay, so I think she spent years being manipulated and abused, that doesn't mean I feel sorry for the sentence she received.
Well said ymb.
ummmm... then point being made here is that the fact that she spent all those years being manipulated and abused does not entitle her to have her sentence reduced. Anyway, I don't buy this "manipulated and abused" crap...she knew what she was doing all along and must now pay the penalty for her mistakes. She killed her children for Gods sake.

and as it stands the fact is she may get away with only serving just one year and four months for each of the murders she was directly involved in

1 life = 16months......yup thats justice...british style
Andy, counsel will not always' have a punt' as you put it, otherwise every single case would be appealed, wouldn't it ? You might argue that that's because the fee for doing so is so poor, in any event, without having to miss work just to accommodate it, but there may be other reasons !
It's disgusting. Surely a,life sentence for each victim would be more appropriate?
Hc, the appeal has been rejected, eh? Wonder if that took longer than ten minutes!
Agree with ymb - she will probably have to be segregated in prison - but for me the sentence should have been at least double. No doubt there will be an appeal to the European Court moaning about her human rights being violated in some form or another.
Just found this on the BBC news website :::

Worth watching, Miley, for the video of the judge's remarks in refusing leave and dismissing the appeal
Mikey, not Miley. Mikey may not have tweaked in his life!
