So Men Can Read Maps Better
47 Answers
A study, confirming what most of us know already, has found men and women are wired differently.
Now I know this will upset the right-on brigade, especially the feminist ones, but before you fire off a 'Attack YMB post' the study goes on to say women can multi task better, so each sex has pro's.
Maybe this is why women are statistically safer drivers. Of course the great EU ignores this and has clobbered women with higher insurance. will they change their minds in the light of evidence or should playing the right-on card take precedence over fact?
It certainly does put paid the the 'men and women are the same' rhetoric though.

There are biological differences between men and women that are hard-wired into us from the Stone Age onwards.
Men were the hunters, their distance vision was excellent, but their close vision, less so, which is why now a man can't see the car keys on the table, but his wife will see them instantly.
Similarly, the woman kept the fire, did the food, supervised the children around the cave, which is simply multi-tasking my another name, which is why she can do several things at the same time, but men struggle.
As far as navigation goes - the present Mrs Hughes could steer to Mars and back if required, I still get lost around our own city, so we both knock that cliche on the head!

Haven't had time to read the link as yet, although I did catch a glimpse of the headlines in todays newspaper.
What amuses me though is YMBs obsession with this mythical "right-on" brigade. Almost every post is prefaced by addressing this claque of posters, all of whom are lumped together and stereotyped as being "right-on" merely for having the temerity of having a different point of view! Laughable really.
As for rhetoric suggesting "men and women are the same" - the only people I have seen making that kind of link recently are the non-pc brigade - you only have to look back to the story about compensation for women RAF members who suffered pelvic stress fractures due to the RAF failing to observe their own rules on having different stride patterns for men and women. All those objecting to these women receiving compensation were insistent that men and women should be treated the same...
Recognising that men and women have equal rights is a very different thing from saying that "men and women are the same" ;)

'What we already know'
If by that you mean has for the first time actually come up with proper biological evidence that demonstrates a phyiological basis for 'wot we all knew' then yes.
That is the point - not that it tells us that these effects are seen - but demonstrates that it's related to actual brain structures - hardware not software.
Of course it doesn't tell us whether brains start this way from birth or whether they end up this way after years of development (Nature or Nurture).
If you stop trying to bend every story into a chance to ride your rickety old hobby horse for a moment you might think about the implications of this.
What happens when this research is focussed on the brains of Gay and Transexual people?
We could see a physical basis for these - how wuld that relate to the way people see these - some might call it a phyical 'disorder' others take it as proof that Homosexuality cannot be 'cured'
Is there a chance that this may show up conditions like autism, Aspergers or ADHD which have resisted a physiological diagnosis to date?
This sounds pretty interesting stuff!
