bit of a debate going on here, should the paper of printed this (ex) reader's letter?

I think it should of been binned as that's were this sort of garbage thinking should reside, others think it should of been printed if only to show what sort of idiots walk our streets

Sorry, should have clarified that... The rest of us tolerant folk have the right to disagree with Mr Jones... My apologies for forgetting that some people do think that there is something abnormal, wrong or disgusting about homosexuality.

Please tell us all 2sp who made you the spokesperson to speak for ''The rest of us''

WR.
the rest of us all have the right, WR. Up to us whether we exercise it thus.

My apologies for forgetting that some people do think that there is something abnormal, wrong or disgusting about homosexuality.

Mr Jones could always emigrate;

Look, I don't know how to put this...but what the bejiggings are you talking about?

Seriously.

Should the paper have printed the letter?

Hell yeah.

There are a number of people who share Mr Jones' view, and I welcome the chance for then to give those views and airing, because it results in those who oppose those views to stand up and say so..

...like the overwhelming majority on this thread.

But seriously...does anyone know what youngmafbog is talking about?

Who's trying to ban what?

Is it me? Am I the only one who doesn't get where he's coming from???
sp1814, I think you'll find he's coming from the right...
Question Author
or he has gone past the right and is now round the bend?

I would have thought that losing one bigoted reader wouldn't have bothered this newspaper one jot...good riddance !
At the risk of repeating myself, I'm pretty sure this is a wind up and most people seem to have been (wound up). One could even suggest that the letter was written by the paper to generate publicity, if one was being sceptical. Strange that the writers initials are JJJ, one letter off KKK. mmm.
Mr Jones is not a bigot mickey he just has his own likes and dislikes and views, not every race, creed and colour embraces homosexuality, it is choices - myself - I could not give a fig.
Question Author
zac's - letter real, (or it was really sent into the paper) couldn't tell you if its a wind up or not but i for def its a real letter received by them
I notice throughout this thread the use of the word 'tolerant'...............how nice it must be to be tolerated.
I'm not saying the letter isn't real, just the apparent views of the writer.

"One could even suggest that the letter was written by the paper to generate publicity, if one was being sceptical."

i was just clarifying that bit for you
craft, even though I used the word tolerant, it's not one I'm overly comfortable with either. I'm just not wordy enough to think of a better one.

I was thinking that some member of staff may have written & sent it.
I imagine lots of people tolerate me. It means they don't like me but they don't actively want me silenced or killed. That's fine by me, that's how it should be.
"I can't be bothered to read the details but seems to me holding an opinion does not automatically make one a bigot."

a point lost on some on here

nicely summed up by one of the comments

"Full marks to the paper for printing a reader’s valid point of view and not kowtowing to the leftist media’s pro-gay propaganda machine. Elsewhere, increasingly, the only ‘free speech’ on homosexuality that is allowed is that which is totally supportive of it.
That can’t be right or desirable in an open, democratic society."
/ The rest of us tolerant folk have the right to disagree with Mr Jones... /
You could be tolerant enough to tolerate his intolerance. His view of homosexuality has no more or less validity than anyone else's. What's the problem?
