So I knew this away at Christmas malarkey wouldn't be great fun, harsh reality is it's rotten. The Officers Mess was half full of folk trying to look like they were enjoying themselves but reality was there before the booze started draining it away.
Tell you what though, It really gives you an insight into what our troops have go through when they are forced away from home, I volunteered to come here!!. So while everyone is celebrating tomorrow spare a thought for these folk, especially those in Afghanistan or on any peacekeeping duties somewhere else in the world, they are here and there fulfilling the commitments our politicians make on their behalfs doing a job that so small a proportion of our population dare volunteer to do these days. The Falklands isn't really too bad compared to places like Afghanistan.

To all my friends on here have a fantastic day, I'll speak to you all on Boxing day

Morning, Slappy....I will think of you all tomorrow when we have out toast before dinner....Guinness okay?

Take care...Gx
Our toast.....not out toast...Made it sound like I sit the guests in the garden with a toast starter....xx
slappy they will surely be in my thoughts. afghan is one awful place to be.

take care. xx
I know the feeling. I have had a few and many more than a few forced Christmas Days and New Year`s Eves down route. You try to convince yourself that you are having a great time but you are not because you are not with the people that you want to be with because at the the end of the day Chrismas and New Year is about who you are with, not where you are. Tell me about it!
And so say all of us, to all our uniformed heroes, including police, fire, medics etc happy Christmas and thank you.

Wishing all our troops a happy & safe Xmas.

Our Gov is invited to serve in foreign fields as our democracy, policing & peace keeping is the best, trusted & envy of other countries & governments. Know that you are our showpiece, representing our best values. We only train our ablest men and as you serve our Queen/Gov and us at home, we are safe in your hands. God bless all of you.
Having been there and done that in various parts of the world I agree with you slappy. Have the best day you can mate. I'll raise a glass to you. :o}
