I agree with ummm's response to wendilla. I used to be a single mother on benefits. I certainly could not afford designer clothes (or any new clothes), a car or holidays. Perhaps their boyfriends provide them with that.

I don't know about burgers but it isn't unusual for production teams to hand out cigarettes or beers to interviewees.

It's usually done for good reason but does risk all sorts of issues arising:

e.g. you've just invested an hour setting up for a shot that the Director really wants when the subject says "I can't do it. I'm too nervous without a ciggie/beer".

So what do you do?

Cloverjo that is what I meant that the partners are fiddling as well and living there just a few nights in the week I believe they are allowed 3 nights. I do know that there are genuine cases struggling through no fault of teir own.
