Just had a bailiff at the door looking for my landlord - apparently he has not been paying the mortgage on our house. Feel sick, I could cry!

Oh hell, Sherrard, really feel for you, that must be so scary.

Hope you and himself can get things sorted.
Do ypumean he has not been paying, Sherr?
Oh gawd, sherr. I can understand you feeling sick.
OMG how awful for you, I'd be crying too. Do you have lots of contact with your landlord?
No wonder you feel sick, I hope it is sorted for you.

I don't know what we're going to do as we have a bad credit score from when we lost the pub so can only rent privately. Few houses round here that are suitable (this one is only just suitable). Don't want to move the kids out if school either.
Don't understand..I presume you are paying him rent on a property he has mortgage on and he has defaulted ?

Have little contact with landlord. We've been here 3 1/2 years and he's never been to check up on the place.

Yes, we pay the rent but he hasn't been paying the mortgage.

Going it get himself to ring the landlord when he gets in, I can't just send him the bailiff letter and wait for him to contact us. Oh well, suppose it gets me out of cleaning the cooker.
You must seek advice from consumer rights, if he has not been passing rent on for mortgage purposes you may have some redress...contact local trading standards at your council
Sincerely hope it doesn't come to this but here's a link from the CAB website, give them a ring if you can face it.

Might be worthwhile posting in the law forum to ask what your situation really is. Best of luck with it.
Oh God, how awful. :(
Oh Sherr I'm sorry *hugs* hope you get things sorted
So is the house being repossessed?

If so you can apply for a stay of execution (I think that's what it's called) You explain the circumstances to a judge and he'll decide how long is reasonable for you to find somewhere else.

Similar happened to me and I was given 6 months. Taking into consideration that you have 5 children and school to think about you might get longer. xx
