Ok no one deserves to die for it but I have often wanted to strangle the morons using their phones in the cinema! I once reached over and grabbed the phone off a guy in front and threw it down the aisle, very enjoyable! Frankly I'm amazed that cinemas have not developed some sort of sheilding to negate phones entirely, then they'd not have to show those little comedic reminders about phone usage.

Not so much of a problem in the Balearics, but in the UK, the bleedin mobiles were going of, that is not so bad, but the conversation would be heard all over the train and particularly annoying in restaurants.

Bit drastic, but I must admit to getting annoyed when I have to listen to other people's conversations. However, surely texting would not interfere with anything since it is written, not spoken? Just a thought.

And i can't understand what's so annoying about people talking on the phone on the train. You hear twice as much if it's two people in the next seat having a convo and no one complains about that.

I have not been to the cinema since 1979 and have no intention of going in the near future.

When I last went of course there were no mobiles. But the place was still full of people who had no idea how to behave at such a venue and who managed by their behaviour to spoil the entertainment for everybody else. I never understood why people could not manage to go a couple of hours without having to consume vast quantities of food and drink (with all the rustling that goes along with it). I could not understand why they had to discuss every minor point of the film at length and loudly with their friends. I couldn’t believe the number of times many of them had to leave the auditorium (presumably) to relieve themselves (though that may have had something to do with the stuff they consumed). So it was no more cinema for me. The very few films I am interested in seeing I simply wait to be shown on TV (and am usually disappointed anyway).

So to this gentleman. His reaction seems perfectly understandable to me. A bit more summary justice meted out towards people who behave so anti-socially (and who probably suffer from some sort of mental illness by having to continually pratt about with a phone wherever they are) will do no harm in the long run.

And another member of the grumpy old man brigade speaks out - and speaks arrant nonsense with it.When the "summary justice" you are so eager to see meted out is the death penalty, that paints you as the barbarian.You are old enough surely to have developed a sense of proportion?

yes its rude and annoying but you could ask the person to be quiet or leave the cinema to take the call

I do admit that going to the theatre is no longer the pleasure it was, with people flicking their screens open to text or FB a picture of what they are watching - you can't help but be distracted by the little lit screens all over the place.

The predecessor for me was in the late 1970s when we went to hear a big name US singer in Birmingham, and the bloke behind us chatted to his girlfriend loudly for the first ten minutes of the show. I did stand up and tell him to be quiet, we'd paid to hear the singer, not him - he did shut up.
