Insulin Pens And Not Remembering If One Has Had An Injeciton
3 Answers
It's happened a couple of times, the wife (64) has forgotten if she's taken one her three-times-a-day dosage from her Humalog Kwikpen. This bothers me no end and decided to only start my meal (we usually eat together) when I see that she's had her 'jab.' And yet this isn't foolproof ... came up with the idea of three very small coloured cable ties secured around the cap of the pen, there's sufficient room to 'slide' a cable tie down the pen to show she's taken her medication. Small cable ties are available from radio electrical shops. You can keep the pen cap indefinitely ... doesn't have to be thrown away. Surprised the insulin manufacturer hasn't come up with an idea like this. (If you patent this idea, please send me royalities, I live in darkest Africa!

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.For years, I used three differently-coloured injection pens and a set of matching coloured strips, about two inches long, dangling from three nails in a small piece of wood blu-tacked to the fridge.
The coloured strips, indicating the injection-times and dosage, were removed as the injections were carried out; for the following day, they were rehung on the nails, ready to restart. If a strip was still out of place after its due time, clearly the injection hadn't happened.
It worked for me.

You could get one of those pill-dispensers with a slot for every day, and three different coloured counters - one for a.m., one for lunchtime, and one for p.m. Take out the relevant counter and move it to the next day, immediately the injection's been given. That way you can see if you've missed one.
