It seems to me that the only losers here are the two children, simply because this woman wasn't just happy with her lesbian relationship, she also wanted children as well.

Since you have admitted to the fact that you have been a Mail reader of forty-plus years, must put you firmly amongst those Middle Englanders."
Not at all - i have read all the James Bond novels - it doesn't mean I have a licence to kill does it? Reading something aimed at a specific audience does not automatically make the reader a memebr of that audience - unless they are unable to form their own opinion - i think i can rely on your judgement on that score!

Oh so without reading what they have actually printed in this instance you have chosen to criticise them for what you think they have printed?"
Yep - that's about the size of it.

Pretty good assumption about the turkey baster sandy,
//One day in January 1998, Mandy went to Mark and Shaun's house in Laindon, Essex, and handed Mark an empty pill container. He returned it to her containing his sperm, and she completed the procedure with the help of a book called Challenging Conceptions - Planning A Baby By Self-insemination//

How can you come up with such a ridicules analogy as that, but then for a person who systematically excludes one's self, while at the same time condemning others for not only reading the same material, but also accusing them of being unable to form their own opinions, only goes to highlight their own pomposity

The lifestyle of the lesbian couple is at the heart of this story, fairly obviously, but the fathers sexual orientation is neither here nor there really.
Central and fundamental to this question is whether the friend was essentially a sperm donor, or whether he expressed an interest in and acted in the role of a father.
He says he is just a sperm donor - and as far as i know, we would not expect sperm donors to assume any kind of financial/legal responsibility for any children that were the outcome of their donated sperm.
She alleges there was an agreement that he would assume a fatherly role in bringing up any offspring, and indeed for a while he fulfilled those obligations. It is only in these circumstances that he might have some sort of financial/legal obligation, as far as I can see.
Up to the judge/court to decide whether he is shirking his obligations and reneging on a promise, or whether she is a money-grabbing chancer.

That's me told then!

In some ways it's a pity that the father has intentions of filling the father role since it would be interesting to see which sexual orientation the male child of a lesbian couple would eventually develop - given a predominant absence of male/father figures.
The fact that he will be present but also happens to be homosexual will also be interesting.
Basically I see slim chances of any of them being grandparents if it's born a boy.

I have been thinking.........is this a "windup?
He "donated" sperms on two occasions........does that mean he "bonked" her on two occasions?
It must be a man's ultimate nightmare to go to a Club on the "pull" and then find that you have pulled a "lesbian."............being gay wouldn't make it less of a nightmare would it?
Let's go back to the 50's and 60's, a gay goes to a club and meets a lesbian (it happened all the time) and the lesbian said
"I want a baby"
The gay then says
"OK, bend over that chair and kop this lot luv!"
Can you imagine that scenario at a Barnsley Working Men's Club dance in the 50's?
The world has gone mad.

My bad, Baldric. Hadn't stopped to read the article yet.
There was talk in the past about a supposed 'gay gene' but my lack of curiousity meant that I've never read any published research.
If the girls turn out to be heterosexual, then that might indicate the putative gene is on the Y-chromosome, as neither of them received one from the donor/father.
Why do I care about such things? Because, if sexuality is a matter of choice (they insist it is NOT) then upbringing ought to have nothing to do with it and the child of a gay couple can turn out to be straight.
In which case, there is nothing for right wingers to harp about.

/Look, nature dictates that if you are homosexual then you won't be having children. The end./
well dave50
That's obviously not true
and i suspect never has been (with or without a turkey baster)
Another constant throughout human history is that women have children then arguments arise between the biological father and others regarding their involvement and financial support.
The sexuality of those involved makes little difference; except the Daily Fail wouldn't bother printing this story if it had been a row between a hetero couple and a sperm donor.
