The police or the fire service will generally help out in situations such as this.

I have twice locked myself out of a car, the first time was when there wasn't so many dishonest people around, because I simply went to a close by Halfords shop (who in those days held stocks of the most popular car keys) and for a deposit of just £1 they lent me a brown bag full of keys, I then sat on the kerb edge trying out these keys until I finally found one that fitted.

On the second occasion i was near to a police station and I went in to explain what had happened and they sent out a policeman complete with a certain tool and he simply pushed this down the door jamb and lifted the latch.

Maybe she had every intention of joining the AA on the spot as people do when they break down sometimes and if the AA person who told her to pay upfront was familiar with their procedures, it wouldn`t be a story. Mind you, people do call the AA for stupid reasons. I had a neighbour who worked in their call centre and they had someone phone up from New Zealand to complain that their baby car seat didn`t fit their hire car.

This was an emergency she should have called the fire brigade, they do stuff like this all the time, it is classed as a rescue.

I think she's very cheeky. Why the AA? Not the obvious choice. I once locked my keys in the car and my neighbour quickly opened it with a coat hanger. She obviously lives in the wrong area:-)

just checking, my AA membership is about £120 for two, so they took the opportunity to try to charge her the max. Nice behaviour. I hope she joins the RAC.

ok - right , so the keys were in the boot space and she accidentally pressed the lock button , thereby locking the doors

When she then shut the boot , the boot also automatically locked itself.

The doors and boot all lock together- even if one of them is open. If she put the pushchair on the keys, then shut the boot, or the child had hold of the keys, it's possible.

pixie, maybe because it was an emergency? As jack says, they've advertised themselves as "the fourth emergency service" and someone's taken them at their word.
