According to the BBC website Steven Gerrard has made a "huge donation" to the Hillsborough Family Support Group. According to Google he earns £125,000 per week so he has donated less than 80% of a week's salary, let alone including his endorsement income or bonuses. Am I the only one who thinks this isn't really that generous?

Bearing in mind he doesn't have to give them a penny I think it is quite generous. I don't know anyone that gives to charity till they sqeak.
I think it's a generous gesture. How much do you think he should have given ??

He gave the equivalent of £1000 per person who lost their life into the fund. I think it is a very generous gesture, he didn't need to give anything.
Ask the support group if they think it's generous! These sorts of post amaze me!
yup...it sounds like you are
Given his financial circumstances I don't think it is particularly generous, but this isn't really the point, the gesture is admirable, as is his reason (i.e. to re-awaken awareness).
How much do the Support Group need?

Do they need £1million? Or are they happy with £96,000?

Are they short of money at all?

It seems like a fine donation to me.
tell you what why not donate 80% of your own weeks salary, I'm certain the group will be equally grateful.
It's not a donation from £125,000 though, is it? He doesn't give close to 80 per cent of a week's salary. He gives more than a week's salary. He pays tax at 45 per cent, which I reckon means he has c £68k left, from which to pay it. And it's generous at that level, too.

He may 'earn' £125,000 a week, but that doesn't mean he actually sees all £125,000.

A portion of that will go to his business manager, some will go to his agent, some will be set aside for tax and national insurance.

On top of that, he will have outgoings that are far in excess of ours. His motor insurance premiums will be eye-watering, as will his home insurance, and life assurance premiums.

I've calculated that after all those deductions, Mr Gerrard is left with £38.50 per week. Less than those on Jobseekers Allowance.

No wonder he lets his wife cut his hair...
Yes, sp, I reckon that, if he doesn't play too often, he'll break even.
I think it was a nice gesture..
Hopefully they’ll use his paltry financial gesture to track down those that sold all the forged tickets and those that jumped the turnstiles. Doubt it.
hardly paltry....you must be very rich to consider that a paltry sum Jon !!!
Murray, if the amount represented a significant dent in his wealth or income then it may be worthy of plaudits, as it is, it's just a gesture.
If I was wealthy, like Gerrard, I would not donate 1p to any organisation as there will always be some d1ckhead who will be of the opinion that it is "meaningless."

There were no forged tickets that day. But there were plenty that arrived without tickets and wanted to buy one. A contributing factor to the disaster was the decision to let those WITHOUT tickets to enter the ground.

No one jumped the turnstiles. People climbed over them to avoid the crush, but according to Lord Justice Taylor, they had tickets.

Regardless of his income it is a sizable amount... good on him I say.
...and don't see any of the other current Liverpool squad making the same donation.
It was the opening of the gates, not people jumping the turnstiles, that let too many people into the Leppings Lane End at Hillsborough.
wish someone would make" just" such a gesture in my direction !
