Phone Hacking Trial Still Doing On !

This seems to have slipped in popularity recently here on AB, but the trial is still going on ::

It really isn't looking very good for Beka and Co. Unless there is a dramatic turn of events, there going down for a long time. The really important aspect of all this is that they know where the bodies are buried !

After a long time tediously establishing the background, we are getting some interesting stuff. Today's star witness was particularly good because his account of his own hacking, how he was engaged to do it, and how he was praised for and directed in the work, seemed so real.

I agree Fred. It did seem the "clincher" to me when I heard it on the radio this morning. Are Beka and Co "banged to rights" in your opinion ?

as Fred says, they have to trudge through the background detail first.

Private Eye last week reports, of the growing stack of evidence files, Mr Justice Saunders said on 6 January "I spent most of Christmas trying to work out how the numbering of binders was devised."

Defending, you have to discredit the witness by suggesting malice (he was arrested, charged and jailed and may have an axe to grind concerning some people in the dock), profit (is there money in his story if he gives a good account and they go down) or just mistaken memory on key little bits of his evidence. Failing that, you have to hope the jury have forgotten his evidence by the time they retire; no false hope when there is so much, including your client's star turn, to come.

So it is not a case clincher; they are not bang to rights yet.

Organising files is the bane of trials like this. If I had a pound for every time it turned out that some page numbers were different in what were meant to be identical bundles......
