i would suggest that barmaid who thinks the event would have been 'empowering' gets herself a dictionary and looks up what the word means before bandying it about because it is part of a lexicography that sounds 'cool'.
What ever this evening may or may not have been - 'empowerment' was never on the agenda.
There used to be a dance labelled "Vicars and Tarts"....blokes dressed up as guess what and the woman had short skirts, black stockings, see through blouses and black bras...........all good fun.
Do they still have them?...................or have they gone the way of other "good fun" functions.
When serving in HM Forces in UK, most Wednesday evenings there would be a disco in the NAAFI whereby the local female population would be invited and encouraged to attend.
likely to be private parties, i remember going to one many years ago, like gangster and molls, it was an excuse to don fancy dress, slightly different i would have thought, still as others have said perhaps it won't be all bad publicity, but feel they could have used better language to attract their clientèle.
I don't see why they had to cancel, maybe there are other issues. If I said that barmaid looks a *** you'd all come down on me like a ton of bricks.
