I do hope he means for prevention schemes and not for Mrs Miggins to have her carpets renewed otherwise I shall be very very cross.

Ed gave dave three opportunities to answer the question about the 550 forthcoming redundancies in the Environment Agency. But he sidestepped each time. If "money is no object", why are these 550 front line staff in the Agency going to lose their jobs ? What happens next winter, when we have serious flooding again ?

Nero ?
Agree wholeheartedly with Canary42, but who is Mrs Miggins?
Nero fiddled while Rome burned.
Thanks giveup.

Really didn't think I'd have to have that one explained......
mikey4444 questioned it ChillDoubt.
I know, I wasn't being facetious! LOL
I thought "fiddled" was rather appropriate anyway.

I can't wait for the repercussions of this hopefully, off the cuff, statement. Unbelievable.

Your comment posted at 1714 - I only hope that you are never in the same dire straits at these people. Is it the "Put out the fire Jack, my toast is done" attitude ?

giveup, no he didn't. sorry,.
I don't know how true this is,but someone told me that London is due to get more spent on it because more people are affected.
Is this so...*are* more affected? So the folk in Somerset,Cornwall,Devon are nonentities?

fbg, I would refer you to my OP. I have every sympathy with the victims, except those who want my tax to pay for their new carpets, where insurance should be forking-out.
Are they having a rethink on this, 'money no object' promise? Radio 4 this morning seemed to suggest that.
It never seems to be a problem to find millions upon millions to throw at overeas problems and thats without the "foreign aid budget "

make a nice change to put us first
I suspect the 'money no object' promise is a way of heading off the argument that we should be spending the foreign aid budget to sort this out.
money no object? does that mean people denied life saving drugs will now get them?
only if they have to be delivered by boat, aelmpvw
On the news this morning the words "no blank cheques" was mentioned. I think they are having second thoughts. Time will tell.

Judging from the majority of posts, it's clear that there needs to be some quantifying of DC's comment. I think he said it to get everyone off his back and as a possible vote winner (election next yr let's not forget) but didn't think it thru and could have the opposite effect, on both counts.
Money's no object but there'll be no blank cheques. That's clear then.
