While I whole-heartedly agree with this, I find it strange that Princes William and Charles are pressing for this too - odd that they obviously a big difference between killing animals for trade and killing them for pleasure, which I do not.

Agree. A better case could be made for killing animals for trade than can be made for killing them for fun.
Though, having said that, I'd see both cases as very shaky.

I like Prince William, but when I hear about him shooting wildlife, I begin to hate him.
