What I mean is - when straight men introduce their wives to their colleagues, they will still be able to refer to her as his 'wife'.

Same with women.
I can see Tatchell and his baying mob claiming that this is discrimination of the worst kind. If the king marries a man, why shouldn't his spouse be crowned queen? In 50 years' time, when bestial marriages become legal, perhaps they'll have to ban sheep from becoming queen.
The destination of the train we're on is Gomorrah - calling at Sodom, and according to my timetable, we're due in pretty soon.

How can you stop a Queen being a Queen?

I don't think there's a strong enough case, or indeed a large enough constituency for marriages between man and beast to become legalised.
On the plus side, Khandro, at least it will mean extra salt!

The important thing is, will they still be able to call their partner "a bitch" if it did come about, or even "Ewe" if it come to that?
I'm always a bit disturbed when discussions about homosexuality start to compare it to bestiality.
Freddie and the Dreamers were prescient when they sang. Ewe were made for me.
2sp; I don't think the poster was making a comparison, more a case of reductio ad absurdum.
SP, yes, but if a man refers to his ‘wife’ in her absence, how will she be perceived? I like being defined as a woman because that’s what I am. Attempting to eradicate definition of gender is simply ridiculous. Whatever their sexuality, men and women are different - no question about it. This is a nonsensical politically correct step and it's a step too far.
I shall refer to my partner as 'My Wife' should she be absent and doubtless she would do the same regarding me in the same situation.

I imagine SP1814 will be one of a pair of 'husbands'.......I really think that people who believe that they will be banned from referring to their own spouses as they presently do have got hold of entirely the wrong end of the stick.
Thanks, Khandro. Shows how the written word can be taking in the wrong way.

That has got to cause confusion, for example someone comes to your door asking you a question that needs to involve your partner, and you say "wait a moment I will ask my wife".
Yes Jack, one couple I know who are CP's and shortly to be married both refer to the other as "my husband". Don't see a problem with that at all.
Why should it?
And if I confuse a stranger at my doorstep, why should that matter in any case?
AOG, I don't really see how that would be confusing.

If I were to knock at JTH's door and she said she would have to ask her wife, I could deduce what she meant.

And I'm not that bright.
So the caller will be confused for a minute but it shouldn't take long for the penny to drop:-)
Just to get it straight in my head, in the future and depending on if we all get married, I may:

1) Ask Splat how his husband is.
2) Ask Jack how her wife is
3) They could ask how my 'wife' is and snags would just have to put up with it? Awesome! ;o)

Seriously, I read the article and unless I'm missing something (highly likely), I don't really see the problem; Splat calling his husband 'husband' if they marry in no way takes away from what I would call my husband, we'd both be married to a bloke so clearly we'd both have husbands. Also, my definition as 'wife' is the same as Jack's missus who is obviously her wife. I don't understand why this would cause a problem or why anyone would have a problem with it. So maybe I have misunderstood.

And reading the article, it just seems fairly sensible what's being done. If the king decides to marry his prince then that would be the kings husband and not his queen. That just seems logical to me.

^That's it in a nutshell, CD.......;o)

I think snags will thoroughly enjoy being your wife......LoL
