Yesterday was Estonia's independence day, and a large military parade took place which included troops from other nations including the UK.

Why wasn't this reported by the media, or the parade televised for us to see?

No idea. We sent troops? Did we send an ambassador too? I would imagine the reason was due to events in Ukraine and Syria, and because of our domestic political agenda.

Is it important to you? Personally, I could care less that Estonia are celebrating an independence day.
not only that, the primed minister announced he was stepping down

I suppose it's a small county with no revolutions going on, and that's why this wasn't thought news. The India Times seems the only place it was reported.
A faraway place of which we know little perhaps AOG ?

But if it wasn't reported in the Media, how do you know about it ! The post is missing your usual DM link.

Bouncer...now that is funny ! Wish I had said that...I might do in the future though, as long as you don't mind me pinching it from you ?
A platoon from Nijmegen Company, 2nd Battalion Grenadier Guards provided an honour guard at Estonia's 96th Independence Day parade. This was hardly likely to make news anywhere outside Estonia, let alone be televised in the UK, can you imagine the furore if the BBC had paid money to do so!

Presumably because the estimated number of UK people interested was too small.

What would be your estimate of the potential TV audience?

Have you tried YouTube if you're so interested?

I've just checked YouTube for you aog and no one's got round to putting anything on there yet.

There's some footage from 2012 if you're interested
Whilst walking through Tallinn with my Husband and an Estonian friend we bumped into an Estonian Government Minister who they both happened to know. The Minister took time to tell me all about the archeological dig that was going on adjacent to where we met.

For some strange reason that didn't reach the UK news either.
@Eccles, Cool story and apposite too ;)

My question to you AOG is: if it wasn't reported in the media how do you know these details? Were you there?
I'm not sure what sort of replies you expect to a question like that.
I am still fascinated as to what prompted you to post this story. Why do you feel it should have received greater UK media attention?
i think more are interested in what's unfolding in the Ukraine.

I was simply making the point that our government chose to send British troops out to a country that we hear very little about so as to celebrate their independence, but we were not alone other Western powers chose to do the same, and it has also happened in the past.

Do we send troops out to other countries to celebrate their independences, I very much doubt it?

So if this was unique why wasn't any mention made over it?

Just asking isn't this what this site is all about?
Yes it is, AoG - It is exactly that. But you have been peoples answer, which was that there were higher priorities on the news agenda at the time.

Thats what this site is all about, isn't it?
