Floods Of Cuts.
// Research by the official House of Commons library found that the amount spent on flood defences between 2007 and 2011 was £2.37billion, while the amount spent between 2011 and 2015 will be £2.34billion - a £247million cut in real terms.
Sir Andrew Dilnot, head of the UK Statistics Authority, said that it is in the “public interest” for official figures on flood defences to be published. //

Earlier this month Chris Smith at the Environment Agency faced a deluge of calls for his resignation while the Government lied about not cutting the flood defence budget.
In view of the revelation that nearly £250million has been slashed by the Coalition, and the devastion these floods have caused so many thousands of people, should Eric Pickles, Owen Patterson and George Osborne consider resignation as the honourable thing to do?
