Ok so some squiggles on a pendant look like the Arabic word for Allah! Was there the same thing on yoghurt pot the other week? Please!

Perry grew up in a devout Christian home, and both of her parents are Pentecostal ministers.
The singer began singing Christian gospel music before launching a pop career.
"Offended that the talent-free harridan still has a career."
I wish, just once, SP that you would say what you really mean rather than beating about the bush :)
She apparently considers herself to be deeply religious/spiritual;
"She recently told Marie Claire magazine she does not identify with any particular religion, but feels "a deep connection with God".
"I pray all the time—for self-control, for humility. There's a lot of gratitude in it. Just saying 'thank you' sometimes is better than asking for things," she added."
But in general, I would agree - it is nonsensical to get so fussed about a video like this, and I wonder how many of the 60,000 signatories would have even noticed this had it not been drawn to their attention and invited to feel offended.
I am giving some serious thought to some putting together some kind of innocuous art installation that looks superficially similar to some holy relic/image/word from all the major religious schools, and see which generates the most indignant responses and death threats :)

Old Geezer,
You have clearly forgotten the furore over Madonna's "Like a prayer" video.
// Religious groups protested that the video was a blasphemous use of Christian imagery. The Pope banned Madonna from appearing in Italy and urged a national boycott of Pepsi. The latter withdrew their contract with Madonna while letting her keep the $5 million. //

They don't search for ways to be offended. As already said, they take their religious symbols very seriously. When I was in Saudi some years ago with a Muslim colleague, she was looking at some lovely pendants bearing the name of Allah, but she said she wouldn't wear one because she'd have to take it off every time she went to the toilet, for fear of sullying His name.
You don't put the Koran on the floor for fear of dirtying it, the only way you can destroy a Koran or any holy writing is by burning it (if you must), to keep it clean.
If Muslim people had made a video which showed people wearing crucifixes or Jewish symbols being burned, do you not think that the Christians and Jews would be up in arms?
IMO, it's the juxaposition of the name of Allah with a sexy video which isn't helping too. It's insensitive.

Perhaps this US Pastor should have made the excuse that he was going to clean these 3,000 copies of the Koran, then everything would have been all right? :0)
