What have they got against polio vaccination? Perhaps if Allah could be persuaded to clear up the disease then the vaccinations would not be necessary.

They ARE their religion – so please, no more ‘this has little to do with Islam’.//
I think you are completely wrong and drawing unfair and simplistic parallels between these people and the overwhelming majority of peaceful Muslims. (I happened to discuss this yesterday with a devout Muslim.) The main reason why these people behave as they do, isn't out of religious fervour, but stems from lack of education, ignorance, stupidity and mis-interpretation of the Koran.

naomi; I'm pleased to learn that we agree. The thing that dismays my friend on his business trips to Pakistan and other Muslim countries is to see young men born into poverty, without education or hope of employment turning to extremism as a way of life, at the behest of the bad religious leadership criticised by Baroness Warsi;

Khandro, hang on. You’ve just accused me of being unfair – and now you produce something that confirms what I’ve said. The Baroness might think that their approach is at odds with the teachings of Islam, but they don’t – and they can produce the evidence to prove it isn't at odds with the teachings of Islam. That's available to anyone who wants to look.
naomi; I thought it unfair to say as you did "They ARE their religion", they are not, they distort their religion and these extremists are disliked and condemned by all the mainstream of Islam including Warsi, who happens to be the highest placed Muslim in the UK and isn't scared of condemnation and good luck to her, but we need a lot more like her.
Khandro, Islam for these people is not a religion – it is their life – and often the reason they choose to die. Like it or not, it is the essence of their being. They really ARE their religion. Radical Islamists possess a mentality like no other – there is no compromise - and that is what apologists fail to comprehend. I’ve no doubt whatsoever that the Baroness understands that – read what she says - but for you to say we need more like her is an acknowledgement that there are many who aren’t like her, so I’m not sure where you’re coming from – or going to - with that one.
Few people can only see few hundred or perhaps few thousands out of 1.8 billion as the representatives of religion of peace. What about the ones got killed while trying to vaccinate children? Do they belong to the same religion or not?
And I will ignore Naomi’s post about what Quran says as we have been there so many times and I am sure she can’t give a single verse from Quran that could prove her point without ignoring one just before or one soon after, AKA out of context.

Khandro, attempting so drag Afghanistan into the 16th century appears to have been a complete failure and has resulted in more suffering than that to which the Afghans had become accustomed. It seems that being spiritually advanced doesn't carry any need to be civilized.
As for the disappearing thread, perhaps Ed saw where it was going in a fit of omniscience and did the decent thing :o)

Are we not in danger of swapping the "Reds" who were, "under the bed", for Muslims?
