Just unimaginable thinking about the loss of life in this tragedy.

There are thoughts, obviously just that at this stage, that terrorism may be a possible cause, especially now they have identified four stolen passports having been used by passengers on the flight.

I will be honest in that I don't have much knowledge of politics in that part of the world. I know that there have been terrorist incidents but who could be behind this kind of a tragedy, if it does turn out to be an act of terrorism?

Sorry I think the alarm is supposed to be set off by the crew if any attempt is made to get through the door without authorisation
Any way latest theorys on PPRUNE are along the lines of a sudden depresrisation causing the crew to loose consiousness after activating the autopilot and the plane just continuing in a straight line until it ran out of fuel

You have to go to the last few of the 100 posts to read this theory and why it is possible.
But still, as far as I can tell there is no credible explanation for the transponder being turned off, is there?
For the plane to be supposedly so far off course someone must have gained access to the cockpit and drastically altered its course, surely?
It is utterly baffling that the plane could have crossed the peninsular (according to military radar) and flown almost at right angles to its intended direction.
Locals tell of seeing the light of such an aircraft as low as possibly 3,000 feet.
It is utterly baffling.
there have to have been either one catastrophic event or a series of events.
Possibly a power failure and depresurisation , which means the crew put the aircraft on 'autodecent' and 'auto pilot' then a further failure of the oxygen system so that all on board blacked out. In that situation the plane will desend to around 8,000ft then just flyon in a straight line until it runs out of fuel. That would explain a lot of what has been reported about this. It also means it could be 100s of miles from where they are searching.
If the plane travelled east off Malay/Malacca coast for say 6hrs before the fuel ran out, where abouts would the plane come down?
Apparently we have not been told everything .
There are secret tracking devices on all modern Boeing aircraft but this is classifed as highly secret by the CIA. There is to be a press confrence later today where more information will be revealed.
