Lution Town has invited 100 muslim women to watch their match against Chester City.

// Nadia Gulfraz, who is training to be a football coach, said by taking part she hoped to inspire more women to attend matches.

"It's just the fact that they're a little bit worried about the reaction that we might get from the public," she said.

"Just looking at us and perceiving that why are Asian women here? That's the whole point of us doing it today. //

Is the average football supporter ready for this?

Ready for it?
I'm not sure what you mean, Gromit.
I go to watch the action on the pitch and enjoy the atmosphere
It would not bother me, unless they were either blocking my view or constantly asking me to explain the offside rule ;)

I can understand their trepidation though; It can be a crucible, no question.
Ready for what? Women at football matches? Perish the thought
They might be wearing Millwall scarves under their burkhas!

you'd hope so Gromit

explain what exactly, LG?? ;)

Will they be segregated from the men, and will the half time grub contain Halal meat?
//Mr Fazal said there was a "lack of provision and opportunities for South Asian women not only to participate, but also watch" football.//

If they want to integrate they have the same opportunities as any other woman. They can buy a ticket to see a football match, or join a women's team. Load of rubbish!

good, we can stop bothering about equality now

Those women must be aliens, Humber - coached in the offside rule in a mistaken attempt to blend in ;)

Oh, and this gets my vote for best answer ;)

Humbersloop, read your link again. It applies to all women – not just Asian women. They, as I said, have the same opportunities in football, or to watch football, as any other woman. The issue of women’s equality in football is another subject.
Don't worry about equality in football, I think the women have got everything covered.

If the mountain won't come to Mohamed, etc.

But its got to be a good move surely ? Its ignorance and fear that causes most of the racist problems we have in Britain. The more we learn about each other, the better we will be at getting along.
Mikey, I think you'll find that football is not entirely unknown in the Muslim world. A quick glance at any convenient bit of waste ground in most Muslim countries will confirm that.
naomi, the op is a bit misleading; the link is about South Asian women -"mostly Muslim," granted, but not all - going to watch football. The hint, I think, being in the word women, where inequality is both informed by and informs cultural context.

For myself, I always find the shoe shopping analogy such a helpful aide memoir for the offside rule, don't you?

your average supporter wouldn't care tuppence, i would wonder at various comments in the link, mothers being concerned letting their daughters go to a match, why, what do they they think will happen, anyone can buy a ticket and go.
Emmie, exactly.

Humbersloop, not really – especially when it's irrelevant to the discussion.
Yeah, I have heard about it and had read the entire story. I think it is the perfect saying by Nadia Gulfraz. According to me, sports scarves must be the part for every people who are watching a football match in the stadium. I love to wear football scarf and support my team by wearing their supporting scarves. You can guess my passion from this that every month I buy a new football scarf to support my favourite team and in August I have made my mind to buy a purple colour scarf and find the best company for it http://globalscarves.co.uk/personalised-scarves/
